Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ross Maxwell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ainsley Clearly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ross Maxwell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ainsley Clearly!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Ben Zyskovitsi and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maxwell keeps the fight on the outside.

Maxwell forces Clearly back against the cage and clinches.
Clearly trying to stall but Maxwell improves his position.
Maxwell using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Clearly has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Clearly misses with a body punch.
Maxwell misses with a knee strike.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Maxwell as Clearly tries to tie him up.
Clearly tries for a takedown but Maxwell manages to get underhooks.
Maxwell has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Clearly avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Maxwell lands a left hand that snaps the head of Clearly backwards.
Clearly trying to control the position but instead, Maxwell has worked for underhooks and has pushed Clearly into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Maxwell has picked Clearly up - he's going for a ride! Maxwell dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Clearly is trying to stand back up but Maxwell is controlling him

Maxwell is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Clearly wants to control but Maxwell is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Clearly slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Maxwell trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Maxwell is working Clearly over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Clearly looking to hit a scissor sweep but Maxwell is one step ahead there.
Clearly is striking off his back. Maxwell thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
Maxwell lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Clearly tries to roll over but Maxwell keeps him under control.
Maxwell drops an elbow to the side of Clearly's head.

Maxwell will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Maxwell is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Maxwell seems to be looking for submissions.

Clearly wants to get back to full guard.
Maxwell has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Maxwell is nestled in close to Clearly, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Maxwell seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Clearly wants to improve his position but Maxwell is controlling well.
Clearly is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Maxwell scores with a couple of nice shots.

Maxwell thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Clearly's head.
Clearly moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Maxwell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Clearly swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Maxwell content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Clearly is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Maxwell drops back looking for a leg! Clearly is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Clearly manages to kick Maxwell off! Maxwell jumps back into Clearly's guard.
Clearly wants to sweep but no luck.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Clearly is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Maxwell is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Maxwell makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Maxwell thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Maxwell is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Clearly trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ross Maxwell dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Clearly fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Clearly gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Clearly is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Clearly wants to pass to mount but Maxwell is defending the position.
Maxwell wants to control but Clearly is keeping busy.
Maxwell is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Clearly scores with a couple of nice shots.
Clearly thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Maxwell to regain full guard.
Clearly throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Maxwell works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Clearly's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Maxwell bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Clearly's guard.

Maxwell postures up in Clearly's guard and throws a big left but Clearly blocks it.
Clearly is trying to keep Maxwell in close.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Maxwell accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Clearly trying to keep a closed guard but Maxwell is proving a slippery customer.
Clearly looking for a sweep. Not yet Clearly, not yet.
Clearly is breathing heavily.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Maxwell keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Clearly's head.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Maxwell postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Clearly is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Maxwell, into his guard.

Clearly must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Maxwell has his foot on Clearly's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Clearly works his way back into a safe position though.
Ross Maxwell overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Maxwell is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Maxwell lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Clearly!
Clearly is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Maxwell has control of Clearly's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Clearly regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Maxwell jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Clearly is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Clearly and Maxwell has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Clearly can do anything to dispel that myth.
Clearly takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Maxwell is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Clearly manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Maxwell manages to get himself to full guard.
Maxwell seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Maxwell looks up at the clock and then as Clearly takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Maxwell smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Clearly is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Clearly can't do much from the bottom here.

Maxwell is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Clearly knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Ainsley Clearly has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Maxwell in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Clearly tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Maxwell!
