PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Niko Batchiska (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derek Patterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Patterson is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Ice Cream Paint Job. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Niko Batchiska!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Derek Patterson!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Gregory Folan and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Batchiska tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Patterson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Batchiska just misses with a punch to the body.
The fight stays on the outside here - Batchiska looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Batchiska shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Patterson's guard.

Patterson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Batchiska is controlling him.

Batchiska gets to his feet - Patterson follows without any prompting.
Batchiska tries to close the distance and clinch but Patterson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Batchiska changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Patterson tries to avoid it but Batchiska manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Patterson to the ground. Patterson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Batchiska shoots in looking for a takedown. Patterson tries to sprawl out of it but Batchiska keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Patterson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Patterson lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Patterson throws a right and a left that Batchiska avoids nicely.
Batchiska throws a sloppy head kick and Patterson moves out of range easily.

Batchiska ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
