Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Brian McGuire!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jarppi Virne!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Anni Minnemäki and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGuire lands a slapping body shot.

McGuire throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Virne tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. McGuire is in Virne's guard.

McGuire postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Virne is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of McGuire, into his guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
McGuire is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
McGuire is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
McGuire is looking to advance position but Virne won't allow it.
McGuire works his way into full mount!

McGuire seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Virne is holding on tight.

McGuire throws some wild stikes that Virne manages to avoid easily.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
McGuire is looking to work his way around to Virne's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.

McGuire is working for a guillotine from mount but Virne frees his head quite easily.

McGuire swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Virne is now in McGuire's guard. A big mistake from McGuire there, giving up the dominant position!
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Virne wanted to stand there but McGuire had control of the position.

Virne avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
McGuire is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

McGuire is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Virne is just riding it out for now. McGuire eventually gives up the hold.

McGuire is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
McGuire is looking to advance position but Virne won't allow it.

McGuire is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Virne sees it coming and defends easily.
McGuire content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
McGuire thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Virne's head.

McGuire looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

McGuire is working for a kimura but Virne is defending it quite comfortably.

Virne throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and McGuire counters with a takedown into side control.

McGuire wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Virne, who protects the arm well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Virne is trying to buck McGuire off.

Virne is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but McGuire has just dragged him back down to the mat.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

McGuire lands a few punches from side control.

Virne wants to clinch

and McGuire counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by McGuire.

McGuire is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
McGuire slips nicely into half guard.

McGuire has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Virne defend it? McGuire steps over the head and cranks it - Virne is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for McGuire!
