Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Theo Rains! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Scotty Sherdog! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Edson Gomes and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rains throws a head kick but Sherdog moves out of range.
A head kick misses from Rains. Theo Rains seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rains fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sherdog sprawls well initially but Rains persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Rains is trying to work for a kimura but Sherdog is defending well.
Sherdog is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Rains pulls his head out easily. Rains uses his free foot to push down on Sherdog's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Sherdog. Sherdog is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Rains working for a submission but Sherdog is keeping him at bay. Rains wants to finish this one by submission but Sherdog is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Rains. Rains is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Sherdog has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Rains is breathing heavily. Rains is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Sherdog is surviving well by controlling Rains's body position as best he can.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sherdog is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Rains has hold of Sherdog's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Sherdog manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Rains avoids the attempt from Sherdog to control. Sherdog is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Sherdog is trying to escape the mount but Rains keeps good control and instead manages to take Sherdog's back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sherdog looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands. Rains is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
