Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Donnie Groves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Bender (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Groves kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is ready 4 war. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Donnie Groves! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Bender! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bender closes the distance and clinches up with Groves, looking for a takedown. Bender pushes Groves against the cage but Groves circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Groves looks to land a body kick but Bender moved away. Groves tries to close the distance and clinch but Bender swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Bender closes the distance looking to clinch and Groves counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Groves is pushing down on Bender's leg trying to pass to half guard. Bender is fighting to maintain full guard but Groves has managed to sneak the leg through. Bender looks like he's trying to stand up.
Groves missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Groves takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Bender is trying to stand.
Groves thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Groves thows a huge punch but Bender dodges it nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Groves missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Groves looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Bender is trying to stand back up but Groves is controlling him
Groves thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Bender to regain full guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Groves accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bender looks gassed!
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Bender tries to clinch but fails miserably and Groves decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Bender's guard. Groves scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Groves trying to control but Bender is working from the bottom. Bender kicks Groves off and gets to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bender tries to clinch and Groves counters with a single leg into guard. Bender didn't expect that. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Bender wants to stand but Groves is controlling the position. Groves postures up in Bender's guard and throws a big left but Bender blocks it. Groves trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Groves postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Bender wants to stand but Groves is controlling the position. Groves trying to control but Bender is working from the bottom. Groves tries to free his leg and advance position but Bender is retaining full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Bender will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Bender throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Groves counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Groves. Groves postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Bender is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Groves, into his guard. Bender wants to get up but he can't break Groves's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Bender stopping the sweep attempt from Groves. Bender postures up.
Bender stands and steps away. Groves gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bender wants to clinch but Groves slips to the side and Groves counters with a good low kick that Bender was not able to check. Bender looks to clinch and Groves counters with a flying knee. Nice. Groves misses with a head kick.
Groves fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Bender gets a clinch. Groves missing with knees to the body.
Bender gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Groves regains guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Bender would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Groves looking to hit a scissor sweep but Bender is one step ahead there. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Groves throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Donnie Groves dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Groves circles away from the clinch attempt and Groves counters with a single leg into guard. Bender didn't expect that. Groves trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Groves decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Groves misses with a double jab
and Bender counters with a takedown into side control. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Groves struggling a bit here. Groves tries to buck Bender off but Bender is having none of it. Groves gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Bender tries to stand and escape but Groves is controlling the position. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Groves pushes Bender off and gets back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bender fails with the takedown and Groves counters by moving into the clinch. Groves takes a shot to the head. Bender escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Bender takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Danga de danga de dang - Bender scores with a four punch combination! Groves doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Bender shoots in but Groves avoids the takedown attempt easily. Bender moves in looking to clinch but Groves pushes him off. Groves throws a head kick that misses and Bender moves into the clinch. Bender lands a hook to the side of the head. Groves has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Bender is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Bender manages to break the clinch.
Groves stuffs the takedown attempt from Bender. Bender gets slowly back to his feet. Donnie Groves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Bender. Bender throws a lazy head kick and Groves holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Groves trying to stall but Bender improves his position.
Groves has had enough of the clinch but Bender keeps him there for the moment. Bender wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Bender is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Groves tries to land knees in the clinch but Bender avoids the damage to the body. Groves misses with a knee strike.
Groves tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Bender wants to stall.
Bender wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Groves breaks from the clinch.
Groves throws a head kick but Bender moves out of range.
Bender throws a quick inside leg kick. Groves fails in his attempt to clinch. Bender tries to clinch up but Groves circles away and keeps his distance. Groves circles away from the clinch attempt and Groves counters by clinching up. Groves breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Groves throws a sloppy head kick and Bender moves out of range easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bender closes the distance but Groves moves to the side and Groves counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Bender lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Groves drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bender pushes Groves away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Groves gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Groves wants to control but Bender is keeping him busy. Groves is chipping away with strikes.
Bender is trying to get back to his feet. Groves goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Bender rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Groves's guard! Nice work there by Bender! Groves is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bender postures up.
Groves manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Bender manages to get himself to full guard.
Groves stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bender swivels though and keeps the full guard. Bender wants to stand but Groves is controlling the position. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Groves postures up in Bender's guard and throws a big left but Bender blocks it. Groves won't allow Bender to get back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Donnie Groves will probably get the nod. That's time! Groves's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Groves tries for a takedown but Bender sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Bender scores with a spinning back kick! Bender tries to clinch but Groves moves away and Groves counters with a shoot takedown. Bender fights it but they end up in guard. Groves in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Groves scoring with punches to the head and body. Groves cracks Bender with a solid left hand. Groves wants to control from the top but Bender keeps moving. Groves connects with a couple of short punches. Groves drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Bender manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Groves has Bender in his guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Bender stands up and waves to Groves to follow him. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fight stays on the outside here - Bender looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Groves shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bender but Bender pushes him off and we're back to square one. Groves darts in trying to clinch and Bender counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Groves keeping control of the position. Groves slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Groves lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Bender!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Groves is in the full mount, landing strikes. Bender is trying to stand. Bender takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Groves in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Groves unloads with some shots from mount but Bender bucks and avoids them well.
Groves goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Bender turns into him and now he's in Groves's guard.
Bender tries to stand but Groves is controlling from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Groves scores with a nice shot. Groves had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Bender is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Groves Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Bender's back instead. Bender is trying to stand back up. Groves throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Bender!
Groves scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
Bender covers up after that shot from Groves.
Groves has Bender flattened out and is raining down punches.
Bender is rocked!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Oooh a big shot gets through from Groves. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!
Bender is still in real trouble! Can Groves finish him? Groves lands an elbow to the side of the head. Groves is working the ground and pound. Can Bender escape? Groves controls the action. Bender holding both Groves 's hands and preventing any damage. Groves lands punches and elbows. John Bender has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Groves patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here? Bender is trying to stand back up.
And that's the end of the fight! Donnie Groves showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Groves, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
