PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kevonnn Brian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucas Matos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kevonnn Brian!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lucas Matos!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Mauricio Rocha and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matos misses with a takedown attempt - Brian sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Brian tries for a takedown but Matos circles away easily

and Matos counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Brian!
Brian is squirming around, avoiding Matos's attempts to control the action.
Brian is trying desperately to improve position.
Brian is trying to stand up.

Matos looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Matos looking to finish Brian with some ground and pound. This is bad for Brian!
Brian could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Matos scoring with strikes but Brian is staying in there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brian wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Matos stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Matos with a lazy takedown attempt

and Brian counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Matos's guard now.
Brian throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Brian postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Brian pushing down on Matos's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Matos moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Matos pulls Brian in to control the position.
Matos preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Brian is breathing heavily.
Brian looking to pass the guard.

Brian trying to stand up but can't free himself from Matos's guard.
Matos has Brian pulled in close to control his posture.

Brian avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Brian throws a strike but Matos rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Matos trying to control the position from guard on top but Brian is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Matos is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Matos decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Brian, up you get!
Brian missing with a left hand there. Matos was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Kevonnn Brian has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lucas Matos.
Brian throws a strike but Matos avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Matos uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Lucas Matos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Matos leaves Brian with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Matos has his takedown stuffed
and Brian makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Matos really felt that one!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Matos changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Brian tries to avoid it but Matos manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Brian to the ground. Brian escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Matos fails with the takedown.

Matos scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Matos wants to control but Brian is keeping him busy.
Brian is looking to reverse the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Matos is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Brian is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Brian is looking for a sweep.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Lucas Matos will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Matos looks for a takedown but Brian sprawls well.
Kevonnn Brian is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Brian wants to clinch.
Matos changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Brian tries to avoid it but Matos manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Brian to the ground. Brian escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Brian feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Brian stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Matos swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Brian is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Matos is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Matos has escaped and now he's on top!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Matos trying to control but Brian is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Brian has an active guard here but Matos has managed to pass into half guard.
Matos is taking a breather. Brian says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Matos gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Brian wants to stand but Matos has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Matos manages to get to full guard.
Brian trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Brian is posturing up here but Matos has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Brian tries to roll out but it's too tight and Brian has to tap! Slick submission there by Matos!
