Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, JD Kay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ong Bak!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Illya Tyunina and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bak tries to close the distance and clinch but Kay swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Bak tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Kay pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kay throws a sloppy head kick and Bak moves out of range easily.

Kay drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Kay advances position into side control!
The strikes coming from Kay are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Kay stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Bak tries to bum rush Kay with a series of wild strikes but Kay uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Bak misses with a head kick.
Kay tries a head kick but it misses.
Kay throws a sloppy head kick

and Bak counters by moving into the clinch.

Bak breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Kay is looking to clinch.
Bak tries to clinch but Kay moves away
and Kay counters with a nice kick to the body.
Bak looks to clinch

and Kay counters with a shoot takedown. Bak fights it but they end up in guard.

Kay gets to his feet. Bak looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Bak looks gassed!

Kay darts in and clinches Bak up against the cage.
Bak is trying to break free.
Kay tries for a takedown but Bak manages to get underhooks.
Bak prevents Kay from breaking the clinch.
Kay is trying to push Bak away but Bak has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Kay successfully pulls guard.

Bak got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kay has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bak has managed to get both his arms back between Kay's legs - danger averted.
Kay wants to sweep but no luck.

Bak wants to stand but Kay has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Bak wants to stand and escape but instead Kay has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kay in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Kay stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bak swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kay wants to control from the top but Bak keeps moving.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kay slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Kay throwing strikes from guard but Bak blocks nicely.
Bak really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kay. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of JD Kay.
Bak throws a body kick that misses.

Kay rushes Bak and presses him up against the cage.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Kay has picked Bak up - he's going for a ride! Kay dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Kay throwing shots but Bak is blocking nicely.
Bak is trying to stand.
Kay with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Kay is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bak sees it coming and defends easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kay wants to pass the guard but Bak is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

JD Kay dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Kay misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Bak.
Bak closes the distance looking to clinch

and Kay counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Bak's guard now.
Kay passes Bak's left leg - he's now in half guard.
JD Kay overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kay controlling the pace.
Bak pushes Kay off looking to stand but Kay dives back in and keeps control.
Bak is breathing heavily.
Well, if Kay is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Bak avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Kay.

Bak is defending against the submission attempts here by Kay.
Kay is figuring out what he wants to do next.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kay seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Bak does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Bak avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Kay.
Kay frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Kay lands a nice shot to the head.

Kay is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Bak is surviving well by controlling Kay's body position as best he can.

Kay trying to control but Bak is having none of it.

Bak defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Kay.

Kay working for a guillotine from mount but Bak is in no mood to give up.

JD Kay dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Kay closes the distance and pushes Bak back into the cage.
Kay is looking to break free of the clinch but Bak has double underhooks.
Bak is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Bak is pressed up against the cage. Kay has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Bak down to the mat. Bak avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Kay tries a head kick but it misses.
Bak darts in trying to clinch

and Kay counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Bak looks like he's trying to stand up.
Kay passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Bak!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kay controlling the position easily from mount.

Kay lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Kay sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Bak avoids a series of strikes thrown by Kay.

Kay throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Kay is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bak can do to turn this around?

Kay sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Bak is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Kay has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Bak's face.
Kay fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Kay with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Kay cracks Bak with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Kay with shots to the head and body - Bak looks very uncomfortable down there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kay unloads with some shots from mount but Bak bucks and avoids them well.
Kay misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Kay lands a heavy elbow.
Kay fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kay lands with some strikes.
Ong Bak has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
JD Kay is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
