PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Doug Tuna (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexey Belyakov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Tuna might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Sharky + George. Alexey Belyakov will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Doug Tuna!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alexey Belyakov!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tuna shoots in but Belyakov avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Tuna throws a nice outside leg kick.

Tuna shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Tuna looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Belyakov is looking to improve his position.
Belyakov wants to stand back up but Tuna manages to pass into side control.
Tuna trying to control the action but Belyakov is working from the bottom.
Belyakov is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Tuna is controlling him well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Belyakov tries to buck Tuna off but Tuna is having none of it.
Tuna takes a little break here. Belyakov wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Belyakov throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
Tuna controls the position.
Belyakov manages to get back to half guard.
Tuna prevents Belyakov from standing back up.
Tuna seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Tuna uses his free foot to push down on Belyakov's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Belyakov.
Tuna postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Belyakov looks a forlorn figure.
Belyakov wants to hold on but Tuna pushes him away.
Tuna controlling the pace for now.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Belyakov is squirming around, avoiding Tuna's attempts to control the action.
Belyakov is working to get back to half guard.

Belyakov bucks up and throws Tuna to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!
Belyakov misses with a few strikes there.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Tuna.
Belyakov lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Tuna circles away quickly and effectively.
Belyakov looks to land a combination but Tuna avoids it well.
Belyakov dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Tuna. That did some damage!
Tuna changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Belyakov tries to avoid it but Tuna manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Belyakov to the ground. Belyakov escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Doug Tuna. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A jab from Belyakov finds it's way through Tuna's defenses.
Belyakov throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Belyakov misses with the combination.
Tuna shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Belyakov sprawls well. Belyakov wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Tuna gets slowly back to his feet.

Belyakov slaps away a takedown attempt from Tuna, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Tuna closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Tuna is pressing down on Belyakov's thigh, looking to free his foot. Belyakov is holding on for now.
Belyakov is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Tuna with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Belyakov tries to kick Tuna off in order to stand up. Tuna Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Doug Tuna dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Tuna throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Belyakov tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Tuna is in Belyakov's guard.
Tuna passes Belyakov's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Tuna is keen to just control but Belyakov is a slippery customer.
Tuna uses his free foot to push down on Belyakov's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Belyakov.
Belyakov is looking to get to half guard.
Tuna trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Belyakov's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Tuna lands a nice shot to the head.
Tuna tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Tuna can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Belyakov is looking to escape.
Belyakov wants to control but Tuna is having none of it.
Belyakov is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Tuna tries to control but Belyakov wriggling away.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Belyakov is looking to improve his position but Tuna isn't that keen on the idea.

Tuna is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Belyakov sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Tuna in particular looking to stall.

That's time! Tuna's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Tuna closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Belyakov did well to prevent Tuna getting side control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Doug Tuna.
Belyakov cracks the inside of Tuna's front leg.
Belyakov misses with a two punch combination.

Tuna feints and as Belyakov raises his hands in defense, Tuna changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Tuna tries to free his leg and advance position but Belyakov is retaining full guard.

Tuna is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Belyakov is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Tuna might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Doug Tuna just wasn't active enough.
Tuna dives in and grabs Belyakov's left leg, looking for a takedown. Belyakov pushes down on Tuna's head and hops out.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Belyakov enables Tuna to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Belyakov manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Alexey Belyakov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Tuna stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Belyakov swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Doug Tuna is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tuna prevents Belyakov from getting back to his feet.

Doug Tuna showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Tuna, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
