PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tabor Nok (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alain Martel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tabor Nok!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alain Martel!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Yves DeLean and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martel is trying hard to land a takedown here. Nok sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Martel tries a head kick but it misses.
The fight stays on the outside here - Martel looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Nok avoids the head kick by Martel.
Nok closes the distance and clinches up with Martel, looking for a takedown. Nok pushes Martel against the ropes but Martel circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A nice inside leg kick there by Nok. That's going to slow Martel down.
Martel tries to clinch there but Nok circles away.
Martel tries to close the distance and clinch but Nok swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Nok shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Martel manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Nok looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Nok trying to control but Martel is working from the bottom.

Nok slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Nok wants to control from the top but Martel keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Tabor Nok just wasn't active enough.
An inside leg kick lands from Martel.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Nok misses with a hook.

Nok scores with a takedown into Martel's guard.
Nok stands and throws Martel's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Martel wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Martel is looking for a sweep.

Martel tries to hold on but Nok pushes him away.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Nok looking to secure an arm triangle but Martel defends it well.
You get the feeling that Martel really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Nok content just to control the position here.
Nok throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tabor Nok dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Martel lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Martel shoots and misses

and Nok counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Martel's guard now.
Nok trying to control but Martel is working from the bottom.

Nok gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Martel tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Martel wants to clinch

and Nok counters by moving into the clinch.
Nok wants a takedown but no success here.
Martel prevents the takedown attempt.

Martel breaks from the clinch.
Nok takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Martel throws a body kick that misses.
Martel displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Nok.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tabor Nok. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Martel wants to clinch but Nok slips to the side

and Nok counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Martel keeping moving, preventing Nok from controlling successfully.
Martel is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Nok is controlling him.
Martel controls Nok momentarily but Nok frees himself.

Nok prevents Martel from getting back to his feet.
Nok looking to sit in guard and control but Martel gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Nok has a closed guard, preventing Martel from standing up.
Nok keeping moving, preventing Martel from controlling successfully.

Nok throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Nok trying to control the position.
Martel trying to control the position from guard on top but Nok is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Martel got a little sloppy there for a moment and Nok has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Martel has managed to get both his arms back between Nok's legs - danger averted.

Nok looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Nok is trying to hold Martel in close to prevent damage but Martel has managed to pass into half guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Nok is trying to stand back up but Martel is controlling him
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tabor Nok dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Martel changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Nok tries to avoid it but Martel manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Nok to the ground. Nok escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Martel doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Nok counters with a single leg into guard. Martel didn't expect that.
Martel wants to stand and escape but Nok is having none of it.
Martel seems keen to control Nok's posture.
Nok wants to control from the top but Martel keeps moving.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Tabor Nok wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Martel pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Martel drives through with a takedown into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Nok has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Martel is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Nok.
Nok tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Martel wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Nok is working hard here to advance position.
Nok tries to control but Martel manages to take his back.
Martel looking to soften up his opponent with punches.
Nok trying to control the hands but Martel breaks the grip.

Martel controlling from the back.
Nok might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Martel is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Nok trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Martel struggling to keep hold of the position.

Martel tries to get the hooks in deep but Nok pushed the leg off.
Tabor Nok overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Martel just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Nok is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Alain Martel.
I think Nok has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
