PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kurt Kendall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Earl Oyster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kendall comes to the cage accompanied by Kool Moe Dee - I Go To Work. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kurt Kendall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Earl Oyster!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Chad Campbell and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oyster throws a series of punches but Kendall avoids them all with ease.
Some wild striking there from Oyster.
A combination from Kendall does no damage.
Kendall misses with a few strikes there.
Oyster walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Kendall checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Kendall moves away from the strike by Oyster.

Kendall has Oyster up against the cage in a clinch.

Kendall manages to break the clinch.
Oyster fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Oyster throws a combination that misses

and Kendall counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Kendall missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Kendall tries to stand but can't do so whilst Oyster controls his leg.
Kendall has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Oyster regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Kendall.
Kendall tries to stand but Oyster is controlling from the bottom.
Oyster avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kendall drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Oyster dives on top into guard.
Kendall is pulling down on Oyster's head. It's preventing any offense from Oyster, at least for the moment.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kendall wants to hit a switch here but Oyster passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Kendall there!
Kendall tries to lock up and control but Oyster gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Oyster stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

and Kendall counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kendall.

Kendall won't allow Oyster to get back to his feet.
Kendall would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Oyster wants to stand and escape but Kendall is having none of it.

Kendall shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

and Kendall counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Kendall is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Kendall wants to stand and escape but instead Oyster has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Kendall has a closed guard, preventing Oyster from standing up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Oyster decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Kendall, up you get!
Oyster is looking to clinch but Kendall is avoiding it.

and Kendall counters by clinching up.
Kendall has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Kendall is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Oyster gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Kendall lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Oyster or not.

Oyster tries to break free but Kendall pushes him back against the cage.
Kendall is trying to push Oyster away but Oyster has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Oyster pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Earl Oyster seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Oyster can do anything to dispel that myth.

Kendall stands and steps away. Oyster gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Oyster throws a right and a left that Kendall avoids nicely.
Oyster misses with an uppercut.
Kendall shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Oyster defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kurt Kendall. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kendall shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Oyster pinned against the cage. Oyster gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Kendall counters with a shoot takedown. Oyster fights it but they end up in guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Oyster goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Kendall has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Kendall changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Oyster tries to avoid it but Kendall manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Oyster to the ground. Oyster escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Oyster enables Kendall to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Oyster manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kendall prevents Oyster from getting back to his feet.
Oyster utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Kendall trying to control but Oyster is working from the bottom.

Oyster is looking to stand up but Kendall isn't so interested in that idea.

Kendall wanted to stand there but Oyster had control of the position.

Oyster kicks Kendall off and gets to his feet.

Kendall closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Oyster did well to prevent Kendall getting side control.
Kendall tries to pass to full mount but Oyster defends it.
Kendall takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Kendall is looking to stall here but Oyster recovers full guard.
Kendall won't allow Oyster to get back to his feet.

Kendall looking to sit in guard and control but Oyster gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Oyster decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Oyster wants to clinch.
Kurt Kendall is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Oyster looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Kurt Kendall is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Oyster is looking to clinch but Kendall is avoiding it.
Oyster closes the distance but Kendall moves to the side

and Kendall counters with a nice double leg into side control. Oyster won't be happy with that.
Oyster is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Kendall asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Kendall with the ground and pound but Oyster regains half guard under the barage of strikes.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kurt Kendall showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kendall, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
