PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Matthew McPain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kaiser Soze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Matthew McPain has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matthew McPain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kaiser Soze!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Elvis Blanc and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McPain misses the jab.
An inside leg kick from McPain misses.
McPain throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Soze scores with a takedown into McPain's guard.
Soze stops McPain from standing up.
Soze really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McPain. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
McPain keeping full guard, as Soze tries to pass.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Soze throwing strikes from guard but McPain blocks nicely.
Soze trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
McPain is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
McPain misses with an uppercut.
McPain misses with a double jab.
Soze slips a jab from McPain.
McPain lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
McPain takes a swing at Soze's ribcage but misses.

Soze scores with a takedown into McPain's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McPain keeping moving, preventing Soze from controlling successfully.
Soze lands a couple of decent looking shots.
McPain keeping full guard, as Soze tries to pass.
Soze trying to control the position from guard on top but McPain is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
McPain is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Soze thows a big elbow that misses.
Soze postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
McPain is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Soze is controlling him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Soze slips under a jab from McPain.
Soze shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts McPain as he jumps to the side.
Soze takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Soze looks gassed!
Soze shoots in for a takedown but McPain shows good takedown defense.
McPain misses with a looping right.
Soze tries to move into range but McPain moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Soze misses with a hook.
McPain lands the left hand.
McPain throws a head kick but Soze moves out of range.
McPain fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Soze on the side of the head.
The crowd cheers as McPain lands an impressive looking overhand right. Soze doesn't seem phased though.
Soze takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Soze falls off balance throwing a combination
and McPain counters with a series of strikes. Soze will be more careful next time no doubt.
McPain lands a nice looking body shot.
McPain connects with a high kick.

Soze changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. McPain looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Soze is looking to take a break and control but McPain is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
McPain manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Soze prevents McPain from standing back up.
Soze looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks McPain with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
McPain is trying to stand up here but Soze is controlling him well.
Soze missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Soze is trying to control the action in half guard but McPain is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
McPain lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
McPain stuffs the takedown.
Matthew McPain has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kaiser Soze.
Soze shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has McPain pinned against the cage. McPain gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
McPain connects with the punch.
Soze misses with the combination.
McPain connects with a jab.
Nice combo by McPain! Oh, that's hurt him - Soze falls to the canvas and McPain follows him into side control.

Soze is still in real trouble! Can McPain finish him?

McPain decides to stand up, so the ref orders Soze to his feet.

Soze drives through with a takedown into guard.
Soze seems to have recovered his senses.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Soze stops McPain from standing up.
Soze landing some decent shots from guard.

McPain has his feet on Soze's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Matthew McPain is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
McPain scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Soze doesn't seem bothered though.
Soze takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Soze is on the wrong end of a nice combination from McPain.
McPain lands a nice shot to the body.
Soze shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with McPain but McPain pushes him off and we're back to square one.
McPain jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Soze scores a takedown into full mount!
Soze postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. McPain looks a forlorn figure.
Soze is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. McPain can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Soze lands with some strikes.
Soze tries to control but McPain wriggling away.
Soze working away from the top, dropping strikes.
McPain is bucking up trying to escape but Soze cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Soze lands a nice shot to the head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Soze looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Soze lands with some strikes.
Soze looking to control but McPain is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Soze working the ground and pound effectively.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matthew McPain dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Soze shoots for a takedown but McPain saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
McPain throws a jab but it's blocked by Soze.
McPain throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Soze closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Soze throws a series of punches but McPain avoids them all with ease.

Matthew McPain seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Soze decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Soze looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
McPain is staying active underneath Soze, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

McPain manages to escape and get back to his feet!
McPain cracks the inside of Soze's front leg.
Soze takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Soze scores with a crisp jab that stopped McPain in his tracks.
Matthew McPain is winning the standup battle so far.
Soze tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but McPain paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Soze shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts McPain as he jumps to the side.
Left hook, right uppercut from Soze.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Soze throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around McPain's waist but McPain gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Soze off to one side.
Matthew McPain has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kaiser Soze.
McPain lands with a nice combination. Soze backs away looking to recover.
McPain connects with a crisp jab.
Crack! A monster head kick from McPain and Soze falls like a tree - timbeeeeeeeeeeerrrr! A highlight reel knockout by McPain!
