Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Ashika (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Al Horford (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Horford is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by I'll Be In The Sky. John Ashika has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Ashika!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Al Horford!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Donatello Bradman and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horford has a takedown stuffed.

Ashika gets tackled into the cage by Horford. Horford maintains the clinch.
Ashika jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Horford walks away with a smile on his face. Ashika gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Horford fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ashika, pushing him back against the cage.

Horford manages to pull guard.
Horford looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Horford is on top in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Horford content to stall in guard here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
I looks like Horford might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Ashika preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Al Horford wasn't active enough on the ground.

Horford closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Horford tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Horford is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Ashika's shoulder. That is not cool.

Horford tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Horford has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Ashika wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Horford is looking to take a break and control but Ashika is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Horford wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Ashika, who protects the arm well.

Horford is chipping away with strikes.
Ashika is letting Horford control him for a moment.
Ashika is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Horford has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Ashika is being controlled here.
Horford tries to advance to mount but can't.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Al Horford was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Horford shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Ashika is trying to defend but Horford finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Horford stops Ashika from getting back to his feet.

Ashika fails to land with a series of punches.
Horford circles away from the clinch attempt

and Horford decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ashika's guard.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Ashika fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Horford shoots in for a takedown but Ashika shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

and Horford counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Horford.

Horford keeps control of Ashika as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Ashika wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Ashika goes for a takedown attempt but Horford pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Ashika gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Horford is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Horford is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Horford stands up and waves to Ashika to follow him.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Horford is defended easily by Ashika.
John Ashika is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Horford is breathing heavily.
Horford connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Ashika tries to clinch but Horford moves away

and Horford counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Horford.
Horford prevents Ashika from getting back to his feet.
Ashika is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Horford dives into side control.
Horford in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Horford prevents Ashika from escaping the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Al Horford.

Horford closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Ashika pulls guard effortlessly.
Horford trying to control but Ashika is working from the bottom.

Ashika is working an open guard so Horford takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Horford shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
John Ashika has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Al Horford.
Ashika works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Ashika darts in trying to clinch

and Horford counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Horford.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Al Horford showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Ashika's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Horford breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Al Horford seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Horford shoots for a takedown but Ashika saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Ashika misses with a combination

and Horford counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Ashika drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Horford gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Ashika manages to pull guard.
Horford trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Horford trying to control the position from guard on top but Ashika is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Horford takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Horford stands up and waves to Ashika to follow him.
Ashika throws a combination that misses

so Horford counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Ashika wants to stand and escape but Horford is having none of it.
Horford is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Ashika is wriggling around but Horford manages to pass to half guard.
Horford perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Ashika is trying to stand up here but Horford is controlling him well.
Horford trying to control the pace.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Al Horford.
Horford is looking to clinch but Ashika is avoiding it.
Ashika shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Horford eats them both and turns towards Ashika to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Horrible takedown by Ashika or perhaps it was just good defense by Horford which made him look bad.
Ashika defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Horford.

and Horford counters with a slapping leg kick.

Horford shoots in and gets a takedown into Ashika's guard.
Horford wants to control from the top but Ashika keeps moving.
Horford is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Ashika wants to get back to his feet but Horford is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Ashika wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Horford manages to pass to side control.

Al Horford comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Horford winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
