PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Fabricio Valesquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricky Dryupp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Valesquez comes into the arena with "Hurt You" Chase and Status blaring out of the sound system. Ricky Dryupp struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 136.4lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ricky Dryupp!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Bruno Hogan and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valesquez goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Some wild striking there from Valesquez.

Valesquez closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Valesquez lands in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Valesquez trying to control the position from guard on top but Dryupp is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Valesquez postures up.

Dryupp had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Valesquez is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Dryupp Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Valesquez's back instead.
Valesquez tries to escape the position.
Dryupp not allowing Valesquez to control his hands.
Valesquez looking very determined here, making life difficult for Dryupp.
Valesquez is in bad spot here.
Valesquez rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Valesquez is not content to let Dryupp control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Dryupp gets a takedown into half guard.
Valesquez is trying to get back to full guard.
Dryupp is trying to control the action in half guard but Valesquez is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Valesquez is looking for a sweep. Dryupp is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are battling for position here. Valesquez manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dryupp accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Dryupp advances to half guard.

Valesquez has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Dryupp. Oh but Valesquez has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Dryupp goes limp - he's gone! Valesquez jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:04 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Fabricio Valesquez!
Fabricio Valesquez is the new bantamweight champion!
