Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steven Stepp! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, The Man! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Daniel Franklin and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stepp darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Stepp wants to take a breather but Man is having none of it. Man is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Stepp pulls his head out easily. Man looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Stepp takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Stepp wants to lay and pray for a moment but Man keeps working. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. The fighters are battling for position here. Man manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Stepp would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Stepp got a little sloppy there for a moment and Man has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Stepp has managed to get both his arms back between Man's legs - danger averted. Stepp tries to free his leg and advance position but Man is retaining full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Man trying to keep a closed guard but Stepp is proving a slippery customer.
Man tries to land a sweep but no joy. Man has his foot on Stepp's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Stepp works his way back into a safe position though. Stepp stands up over Man, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Stepp trying to control the position from guard on top but Man is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Stepp avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Stepp wants to stand but Man is controlling his posture from full guard. Stepp looking to pass the guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Man throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Man looks gassed! Stepp drops back looking for a leg! Man is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Man manages to kick Stepp off! Stepp jumps back into Man's guard. Stepp trying to control but Man is working from the bottom. Man has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Stepp should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Man has tightened it up now! Stepp should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). The Man!
