The bell rings for round one and we are underway! O Donnell is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Q's half guard. O Donnell trying to mount his opponent but Q defends it. O Donnell is working for a kimura but Q is defending it quite comfortably.
Q is looking for a sweep. O Donnell is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Q keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Q is trying to control but O Donnell manages to pass to mount!
That's one minute gone in the round. O Donnell controlling the position easily from mount. O Donnell goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Q turns into him and now he's in O Donnell's guard.
O Donnell keeping full guard, as Q tries to pass. O Donnell looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Q postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! O Donnell is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Q, into his guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. O Donnell wants to control from the top but Q keeps moving. O Donnell is stalling in the full guard. Q doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Q working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. O Donnell doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. O Donnell manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. O Donnell advances to half guard. O Donnell thows a huge punch but Q dodges it nicely.
Q actively working from the bottom here. O Donnell looking for a submission but Q manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. O Donnell drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and O Donnell jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. O Donnell trying to control but Q is working from the bottom. O Donnell trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. O Donnell thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. O Donnell missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. O Donnell is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Q still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Q has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work! O Donnell regains half guard. O Donnell is looking for a sweep. Q is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. O Donnell wants to get back to full guard but Q has mounted him! O Donnell wants to hold on but Q pushes him away. Q looking for a guillotine from mount but O Donnell is having none of it. Q sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

O Donnell tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Q goes for an armbar but he's not got it… O Donnell turns into him and now he's in Q's guard.
O Donnell throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Q is breathing heavily. O Donnell wants to control from the top but Q keeps moving.
That's four minutes gone in the round. O Donnell stands and throws Q's legs to the side, diving into side control. O Donnell looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. O Donnell is trying to ground and pound but Q uses the momentary lack of control by O Donnell to regain half guard. Q is refusing to be controlled, as O Donnell sits in half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but nathin Q will probably get the nod - 10:9. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
O Donnell shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than O Donnell was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! O Donnell swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Q is now in O Donnell's guard. A big mistake from O Donnell there, giving up the dominant position! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Q wants to control from the top but O Donnell keeps moving. O Donnell lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Q! O Donnell goes for an armbar but Q turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Q.
That's one minute gone in the round. Q slips nicely into half guard. Q trying to pass the guard but O Donnell defending well. O Donnell is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Q trying to mount his opponent but O Donnell defends it. Q is keen to just control but O Donnell is a slippery customer. O Donnell looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Q tries to pass the half guard into mount. O Donnell knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. O Donnell is in trouble now - Q has advanced to mount! O Donnell is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Q trying to control but O Donnell is having none of it. Q jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… O Donnell is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by O Donnell and Q has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Q takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Q working away. O Donnell tries to bench press Q off him but Q keeps the position. Aengus O Donnell overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. O Donnell is working hard here to advance position. Q tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. O Donnell manages to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. O Donnell makes his way to full guard. A much better position for O Donnell. O Donnell wants to sweep but no luck. Q drops back, looking for a kneebar! O Donnell looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. O Donnell looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from O Donnell! O Donnell wants to control but Q is keeping him busy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Q is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on O Donnell's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. O Donnell is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Q is just riding it out for now. O Donnell eventually gives up the hold. Q wants to improve his position but O Donnell is controlling well.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Aengus O Donnell. Well O Donnell has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
