Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rodney J Lewis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Matua!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Johanna Lukiainen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Left hook, right uppercut from Matua.
Lewis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Matua looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Lewis shoots in but Matua avoids the takedown attempt easily.
A slapping body kick lands there for Matua.

Matua gets tackled into the cage by Lewis. Lewis maintains the clinch.
Matua is looking to break free of the clinch but Lewis has double underhooks.
Lewis tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Matua smiles and moves away.
Lewis tries to close the distance and clinch up but Matua swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Matua fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Lewis.

Lewis drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lewis would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Matua really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lewis. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Lewis trying to control the position from guard on top but Matua is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Lewis is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Matua is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Lewis wants to pass the guard but Matua is keeping the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Rodney J Lewis wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Matua tries to sprawl but Lewis drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

John Matua seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Lewis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Lewis shoots in looking for a takedown but Matua manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Lewis's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Lewis shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Matua tries a head kick but it misses.
Lewis tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Matua manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Lewis throws a body kick that misses.
Lewis tries to clinch up but Matua circles away and keeps his distance.
A nice inside leg kick there by Matua. That's going to slow Lewis down.
A head kick misses from Lewis.
Lewis takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Lewis tries for a takedown but Matua sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Lewis shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Matua as he avoids it easily.
Lewis is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Lewis doesn't manage to clinch there - Matua circles away.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Matua can do anything to dispel that myth.
Lewis wants to take a breather but Matua is having none of it.
Matua is trying to stand.
Lewis thows a huge punch but Matua dodges it nicely.
Lewis is trying to control the action in half guard but Matua is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Rodney J Lewis wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Lewis darts in and clinches Matua up against the cage.
Lewis has Matua pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Matua manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Lewis is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Matua is keeping busy.

Matua manages to break the clinch.
Matua tries to bum rush Lewis with a series of wild strikes but Lewis uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Lewis moves away from the strike by Matua.
Lewis shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Matua but Matua pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Lewis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Matua keeps working.

John Matua is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Lewis throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Matua's waist but Matua gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lewis off to one side.

Lewis on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Matua. Matua obviously looking to wear him down.

and Matua counters with a series of strikes. Lewis will be more careful next time no doubt.
Matua tries to close the distance and clinch but Lewis swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Lewis shoots for a double leg takedown but Matua sprawls well. He's pushed Lewis's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Matua stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Matua wants it to stay on the feet.
Matua fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Lewis is out of range.

Lewis shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Lewis goes for an armbar but Matua turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Matua.
Lewis tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Matua stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Lewis looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Lewis gets tackled into the cage by Matua. Matua maintains the clinch.
Lewis prevents Matua from breaking the clinch.
Matua has had enough of the clinch but Lewis keeps him there for the moment.
Lewis is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Matua pulls him back up using the underhooks.

A frustrated look appears on Matua's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Lewis shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Matua sprawls well. Matua wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Lewis gets slowly back to his feet.

Matua catches Lewis with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Lewis looks for a takedown but Matua sprawls well.
Matua misses with a two punch combination.
Matua throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Lewis dives in and grabs Matua's left leg, looking for a takedown. Matua pushes down on Lewis's head and hops out.

Lewis shoots for a takedown but Matua saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

and Matua connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Lewis shoots in for a takedown but Matua shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

and Matua cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

John Matua has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rodney J Lewis is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Lewis rushes Matua and presses him up against the cage.

John Matua comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Lewis has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
