Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 32 - 0, fighting out of New York, Simon Standa! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gabe Holter! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Reed Andrews and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Standa takes a body punch but keeps moving. Holter closes this distance looking for a takedown but Standa circles away. Holter scores with a leg kick.
Standa rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Holter moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Holter shoots for a double leg takedown but Standa sprawls well. He's pushed Holter's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Holter uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Standa has time to react. Holter fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Simon Standa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gabe Holter. Standa takes one on the button. Standa gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Holter. The fight stays on the outside here - Standa looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Standa stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Standa wants it to stay on the feet. Holter fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Gabe Holter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Standa is breathing heavily. Standa tries to clinch but Holter is having none of it. Holter tries to clinch but Standa is having none of it. Holter closes the distance and clinches up with Standa, looking for a takedown. Holter pushes Standa against the cage but Standa circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Standa keeps the fight on the outside.
That's one minute gone in the round. Holter tries to score a power double leg takedown but Standa sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Holter somewhat. Standa shoots in for a takedown but Holter shows good takedown defense. Holter gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Standa decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Holter's guard. Holter is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Holter looking to control.
Holter wants to stand and escape but Standa is having none of it. Holter keeping moving, preventing Standa from controlling successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Holter is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
We're going to have a standup here because Simon Standa wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Standa stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Standa wants it to stay on the feet. Standa stuffs the takedown. Standa slaps away a takedown attempt from Holter, before circling back to the center of the mat. Horrible takedown by Holter or perhaps it was just good defense by Standa which made him look bad.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Holter wants to clinch. Holter connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Holter lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Standa swats away the attempt to clinch by Holter. Holter fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Standa avoids it really well and circles away. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Holter, as that shot connected.
Standa wants to clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nice takedown defense from Standa. No joy for Holter on that attempt. A punch lands to the side of Standa 's head but he takes it in his stride. Holter shoots in but no luck this time. Good exchange - Holter coming out on top. Standa leaves Holter with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Holter misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Holter throws a head kick that half lands.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Holter scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Holter doesn't manage to clinch there - Standa circles away.
Holter shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Standa pinned against the cage. Standa gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gabe Holter dominated that round. That's time! Standa's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
The fight stays on the outside here - Holter looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Holter tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Standa paws at him with a jab and circles away. Holter moves in looking to clinch but Standa pushes him off. Holter connects with the punch. A decent looking cross lands there for Holter. Standa on the wrong end of a nice jab. The fight stays on the outside here - Holter looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Standa takes a body punch but keeps moving. Holter lands the left hand. Standa takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Standa is rocked! Ohhhhhhhhhh, brutal head kick from Holter! This one is all over!
