The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hawkins feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Hawkins is pushing down on Vendrell's leg trying to pass to half guard. Vendrell is fighting to maintain full guard but Hawkins has managed to sneak the leg through.
Vendrell looks like he's trying to stand up.
Hawkins is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Vendrell is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hawkins wants to finish this one by submission but Vendrell is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Hawkins.
Hawkins forces the positional change into back control.
Hawkins is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Hawkins seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Vendrell for as long as he can get away with.
Vendrell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hawkins. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hawkins is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Vendrell won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Hawkins off his unconscious opponent!
