The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sloppy strikes from Garcia. Those never looked like landing. Garcia misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Garcia lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Garcia shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Garcia was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Knicks regains half guard. Knicks is trying to get back to full guard. Garcia seems to be working for a kimura but Knicks defends the submission attempt. Knicks trying to control from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Garcia is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Knicks sees it coming and defends easily. Knicks trying to hold on to Garcia's head to control him but Garcia postures up.
Knicks looks gassed! Garcia wants to free his trapped foot but Knicks is holding on for dear life with his legs. Knicks has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Garcia is working away from the top position though. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Knicks is staying active underneath Garcia, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Garcia not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Marcelo Garcia dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Garcia with a body punch. A glancing blow. A solid leg kick lands there for Garcia.
Knicks shoots and misses and Garcia counters with a thumping low kick. Garcia scores a takedown into full mount! Knicks wants to hold on but Garcia pushes him away. Knicks is breathing heavily. Garcia trying to control but he's not successful this time. Garcia is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Knicks is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Knicks has given up his back here. Will Garcia look for the submission or keep pounding away?
