Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between David Tate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rogelio Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, David Tate!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rogelio Rodriguez!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Alexandre Firmino and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tate lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Rodriguez circles away quickly and effectively.
Tate connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Rodriguez momentarily.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Rodriguez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Tate pinned against the cage. Tate gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Tate throws a lazy right hand but Rodriguez sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rodriguez fails to land the takedown.

Tate stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Tate wants it to stay on the feet.

Rodriguez is looking to clinch but Tate is avoiding it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Tate misses with a series of wild punches.
Rodriguez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Rodriguez wants to clinch up but Tate keeps it at a distance.
A slow jab from Tate misses its intended target.

Rodriguez gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Tate.
Tate misses with a wild body shot.
Sloppy strikes from Tate. Those never looked like landing.
Rodriguez bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Tate stuffs the takedown.
David Tate has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rogelio Rodriguez.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Tate scores with a nice strike.
Rodriguez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Tate sprawls well. Tate wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rodriguez gets slowly back to his feet.
Tate just misses with a punch to the body.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Rodriguez.

Tate paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Tate misses with a wild body shot.
Tate looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Rodriguez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Tate sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Rodriguez somewhat.
Tate fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Rodriguez manages to avoid it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Tate looks to land a left hand but Rodriguez moved out of range nicely.

Rodriguez gets the takedown into side control.
Rodriguez wants to control but Tate is keeping him busy.
Rodriguez remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Tate dodges the ground and pound from Rodriguez.
Tate on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Tate tries to get out of the position.

Rodriguez misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Tate can't do much from the bottom here.
You can see the frustration on Tate's face as Rodriguez controls the position.

Rodriguez in side control, throwing shots but Tate defends.
Tate is working to avoid the ground and pound but Rodriguez connects with a decent elbow.
Rodriguez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Tate dodges the ground and pound from Rodriguez.

Rogelio Rodriguez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Tate has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
