PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Graham Marsh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Glover (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Graham Marsh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Glover!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Atkins and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Glover misses with a few strikes there.

Marsh drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Marsh stands up.
Glover swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Marsh shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Marsh showed some decent athleticism there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Glover gets back to full guard.

Glover looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Glover keeping moving, preventing Marsh from controlling successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Marsh is really struggling to control Glover but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Marsh controls from within his opponent's guard.
Marsh throws and elbow that misses. Glover uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Marsh's guard. Nice move by Glover!
Glover with a flurry of punches that miss.
Marsh bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Glover's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Glover isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Marsh stacks Glover on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Marsh!
Glover takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Glover wants to get back to his feet but Marsh drags him back down.

Glover wants to improve his position but Marsh is controlling well.

Marsh is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Marsh thows a huge punch but Glover dodges it nicely.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Glover pushes Marsh off looking to stand but Marsh dives back in and keeps control.
Glover is looking to control Marsh's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Glover avoid being mounted?
Marsh looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Glover makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Glover.
Marsh makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Marsh trying to control but Glover is working from the bottom.
Marsh won't allow Glover to sweep him here.
Glover not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Marsh throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Glover works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Marsh gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Marsh is trying to break the clinch but Glover is controlling him.
Marsh displaying some good clinch control by pressing Glover up against the cage.
Marsh changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Glover fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Marsh tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Glover throws a right and a left that Marsh avoids nicely.
Glover looks to land a combination but Marsh avoids it well.
Glover displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Marsh.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Glover is desperately trying to improve his position but Marsh has a good base and remains in mount.

Glover is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Marsh's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Marsh's back!
I really don't envy Marsh right now.

Glover is controlling the position but Marsh somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.

Glover is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Marsh doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Glover.

Glover is trying to control the action in half guard but Marsh is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Marsh wants to improve his position but Glover is controlling well.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Glover seems to be working for a kimura but Marsh defends the submission attempt.
Marsh is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Graham Marsh overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Glover wants to stand but Marsh has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Glover not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Marsh manages to get to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Graham Marsh will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Marsh displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Glover throws out the jab.

Marsh rushes Glover and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Glover pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Glover lands with a right hand.


It looks like Graham Marsh has been cut.
Glover throws a nice looking combination but Marsh bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Glover looks to land a combination but Marsh avoids it well.
Glover throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Glover looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Marsh has picked Glover up and slammed him! Glover can't keep hold of the triangle and Marsh manages to pass to side control!

Glover is trying to control Marsh's posture but Marsh avoids it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Marsh has knee on belly momentarily but Glover bucks him off and regains half guard.

Marsh is taking a breather. Glover says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Graham Marsh wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Marsh feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Glover controls Marsh momentarily but Marsh frees himself.

Graham Marsh has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Glover swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Marsh buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Glover throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Marsh lands with a kick to the ribs.
Glover stuffs the takedown attempt from Marsh. Marsh gets slowly back to his feet.

Marsh looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Glover has a hand on Marsh's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Marsh takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Paul Glover has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Graham Marsh is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Graham Marsh showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Marsh, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
