PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Suhail Ahmed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joosep Toots (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Toots is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by dogs out. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ahmed shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Toots but Toots pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Toots scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Toots throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ahmed shoots for a double leg takedown but Toots sprawls well. He's pushed Ahmed's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Ahmed pushes Toots up against the cage in a clinch.
Ahmed tries to score a body lock takedown but Toots shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Ahmed throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Toots tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ahmed is in Toots's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ahmed decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Toots!
Ahmed has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Ahmed there as he acknowledges the shot.
Ahmed fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Toots lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Ahmed circles away quickly and effectively.
Toots throws a shot from downtown. Ahmed moves away and avoids it.

and Ahmed counters with a nice double leg into side control. Toots won't be happy with that.
Ahmed is breathing heavily.

Toots lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Ahmed circles away quickly and effectively.
Toots tries to bum rush Ahmed with a series of wild strikes but Ahmed uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Ahmed fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Joosep Toots seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

No joy there for Toots, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Joosep Toots is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Toots tries to keep at a distance but Ahmed has taken the fight into the clinch.

Ahmed jumps guard and drags Toots to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Ahmed has his feet on Toots's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ahmed has Toots pressed against the cage, preventing Toots from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Ahmed drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Toots gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Toots tries to circle away but Ahmed has him pinned against the cage.

Ahmed breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Ahmed dives in and grabs Toots's left leg, looking for a takedown. Toots pushes down on Ahmed's head and hops out.
Toots tries to bum rush Ahmed with a series of wild strikes but Ahmed uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Toots's jab looks to have found its range, popping Ahmed under the eye.
Ahmed tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Toots paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Ahmed shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Toots as he avoids it easily.
Toots loads up on a big right hand but Ahmed slips the punch.

Toots swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Nice takedown defense from Toots. No joy for Ahmed on that attempt.
Ahmed pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Ahmed takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Toots lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Ahmed backs up against the cage.
Toots throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Ahmed ducks right into an uppercut from Toots.
Toots misses with a hook.

Toots tries to sprawl but Ahmed drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Ahmed wants to control but Toots is keeping him busy.
Ahmed missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Ahmed has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ahmed is looking to take a break and control but Toots is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ahmed is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Toots is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Ahmed throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Toots connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Toots tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Ahmed was well out of range. Poor timing from Toots.

Toots throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Ahmed stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Ahmed shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Toots's guard.
Ahmed passes into half guard.
Toots keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Toots really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ahmed. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Toots is trying to stand.
Ahmed seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Toots does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Ahmed passes to side control.

Ahmed is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Toots looks calm but he's in trouble here. Ahmed gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Toots is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Ahmed lets go of the hold and Toots can pop his arm back in it's socket.
