PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Raymond Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alezander Mataro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mataro has chosen i need a doctor as his entrance music. Raymond Lee had a look across the ring there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Raymond Lee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alezander Mataro!
The judges for this bout are , and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee with a lazy takedown attempt

and Mataro counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Lee is working an open guard so Mataro takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Lee gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Mataro counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Mataro content to control rather than advance.
I looks like Mataro might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mataro tries to stand but can't do so whilst Lee controls his leg.

Mataro prevents Lee from improving his position.
Mataro is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Lee is trying to get back to full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Lee wants to control but Mataro is keeping busy.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Mataro throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Lee tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Mataro is in Lee's guard.
Mataro wants to pass the guard but Lee is keeping the position.
Mataro trying to control but Lee is working from the bottom.
Mataro stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lee swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lee is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Mataro postures up.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Lee tries for a takedown but Mataro circles away easily

and Mataro counters with a shoot takedown. Lee fights it but they end up in guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Raymond Lee. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mataro forces his way into half guard.
Still in half guard, Mataro seems content to control.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mataro seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lee does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Mataro has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Lee is trying to keep an underhook but Mataro manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Mataro shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lee pinned against the cage. Lee gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Lee gets caught flat footed, as Mataro shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Mataro is stalling in the full guard.

Mataro postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Mataro stands up from Lee's guard - Mataro perhaps looking for a knockout.

Mataro scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Mataro thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
You can see the frustration on Lee's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Lee pushes Mataro away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Mataro gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mataro misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alezander Mataro showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Mataro shoots in looking for a takedown. Lee tries to sprawl out of it but Mataro keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Lee manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

and Mataro counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Jab, jab by Mataro - just one landing.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mataro is defended easily by Lee.
Mataro shoots in but Lee avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Raymond Lee has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alezander Mataro.

and Lee counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Lee.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Lee postures up in Mataro's guard and throws a big left but Mataro blocks it.
Mataro wants to get back to his feet but Lee is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Lee's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lee accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Lee postures up.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Mataro wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Lee distracts Mataro with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Lee tries to free his leg and advance position but Mataro is retaining full guard.

Mataro wants to stand but Lee has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Mataro wants to control from the top but Lee keeps moving.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Mataro stands and throws Lee's legs to the side, diving into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mataro trying to control the position but Lee is working away.
Raymond Lee has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Lee gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Lee can't escape the position.

Lee defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Mataro.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Raymond Lee.
Well Mataro has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
