Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mitchell Butler! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Desmond Nelson! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Bruno Lombardi and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Butler tries to land a leg kick but Nelson saw it coming and moves away.
Butler misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A punch combination from Butler misses. Butler with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Butler shoots for a double leg takedown but Nelson sprawls well. He's pushed Butler's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Butler scores with a nice body kick.

Butler tries for a takedown but Nelson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Butler misses with a jab, cross combination.
Mitchell Butler seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nelson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Butler throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. A good leg kick by Butler. Nelson looks gassed! Butler doesn't manage to clinch there - Nelson circles away.

Butler scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Nelson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Nelson tries to contro but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad. Nelson blocking the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Butler swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Nelson is now in Butler's guard. A big mistake from Butler there, giving up the dominant position! Butler can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Nelson controls the pace. Butler pushes Nelson off and gets back to his feet.

Nelson throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Nelson just misses with a punch to the body.
Nice combo by Butler! Oh, that's hurt him - Nelson falls to the canvas and Butler follows him into side control.

It looks like Desmond Nelson has been cut. Butler controls the position. Nelson is still in real trouble! Can Butler finish him? The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Nelson is trying to control Butler's posture but Butler avoids it. Nelson seems to have recovered his senses. Butler working the ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nelson tries to improve position but can't. Butler stands up and beckons Nelson to his feet. A head kick by Butler misses and Nelson counters with a head kick. Nelson tries to clinch but Butler moves out of range. Butler throws a left and a right that both miss
and Nelson counters with a straight right hand. Some wild striking there from Butler.
Butler drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Nelson is trying to control the position but Butler postures up. Butler is fighting to break Nelson's control of his arms but Nelson is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Nelson looking to control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Butler wants to get up but he can't break Nelson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Nelson is trying to control the position but Butler postures up. Butler pushing down on Nelson's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. The fighters are battling for position here. Nelson manages to regain full guard. Nice work. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nelson lands a head kick. Butler smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Butler thows a leg kick but Nelson checks it and Nelson counters with a flying knee. Nice. Butler clinches but Nelson breaks the clinch and Nelson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Butler throws a body kick, spinning off balance and Nelson counters with a shoot takedown. Butler fights it but they end up in guard. Nelson controlling from the top position. Butler wants to sweep here but Nelson controlling him for the moment. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Nelson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Butler is proving hard to escape from.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nelson prevents Butler from getting back to his feet. Nelson trying to control the position from guard on top but Butler is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Butler is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Butler breaks from the clinch.
Nelson throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Nelson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Butler is fending him off so far but Nelson persists. Nope, Butler circles away and we're back to standing. Nelson misses with a double jab
and Butler counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. Nelson scores a takedown into full mount! Nelson thowing shots but they're missing. Butler sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Nelson trying to pass the guard but Butler defending well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nelson trying to control from half guard but Butler is working away. Butler wants to control but Nelson is keeping busy.
Nelson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Butler is trying to stand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Nelson prevents Butler from improving his position. Butler keeping control of the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nelson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Butler controls Nelson momentarily but Nelson frees himself. Butler is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Nelson is controlling him. Nelson looking to pass the guard. Nelson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Butler is proving hard to escape from.

Both fighters are breathing heavily. Butler pulls Nelson in to control the position. Nelson prevents Butler from getting back to his feet. Butler pushes Nelson off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Nelson sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. Butler wants to clinch but Nelson slips to the side and Nelson counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Butler misses with a shot to the body and Nelson counters with a nice leg kick. Nelson connects with a good right hand that stumbles Butler. Butler circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Butler misses with a double jab
and Butler takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Butler looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. A head kick misses from Nelson. Butler drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Nelson is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Butler is one step ahead and moves to full mount! Butler trying to control but Nelson is having none of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Butler content just to control the position here. Butler avoids the attempt from Nelson to control.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mitchell Butler. Well Butler has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
