PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ivgeny Chumakov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nikolay Nechvidov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chumakov comes to the cage accompanied by Little Wing - SRV. Nikolay Nechvidov struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 157.8lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivgeny Chumakov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 9 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nikolay Nechvidov!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Illya Tyunina and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chumakov is trying hard to land a takedown here. Nechvidov sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Nechvidov enables Chumakov to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Nechvidov manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Chumakov is pushing down on Nechvidov's leg trying to pass to half guard. Nechvidov is fighting to maintain full guard but Chumakov has managed to sneak the leg through.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Chumakov in particular looking to stall.

Chumakov stands up out of the half guard.

Chumakov clinches up with Nechvidov and pushes him back against the cage.
Chumakov is trying to break the clinch but Nechvidov has him pressed against the cage.

Chumakov gets control of Nechvidov's arms and successfully pulls guard. Chumakov will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Nechvidov wants to pass the guard but Chumakov is keeping the position.
Chumakov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Nikolay Nechvidov hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Chumakov shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Nechvidov's guard.

Chumakov decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Nechvidov, up you get!

Chumakov shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Nechvidov's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chumakov seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Chumakov stands up and waves to Nechvidov to follow him.

Chumakov closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Chumakov lands in his opponent's guard.

Chumakov stands up over Nechvidov, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Chumakov postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ivgeny Chumakov dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Nechvidov slaps away a takedown attempt from Chumakov, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Chumakov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Nechvidov tries to avoid it but Chumakov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Nechvidov to the ground. Nechvidov escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ivgeny Chumakov. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Chumakov counters with a single leg into guard. Nechvidov didn't expect that.
Chumakov lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Chumakov thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Nechvidov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Chumakov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Chumakov throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Nechvidov works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Chumakov has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Nechvidov can't keep his opponent in guard - Chumakov advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Chumakov wants to take a breather but Nechvidov is having none of it.
Chumakov seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Nechvidov tries to kick Chumakov off in order to stand up. Chumakov Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Chumakov tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Chumakov has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
