Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eric Scribner! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Pembelton! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Chris Downing and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pembelton shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Scribner defends it nicely. Scribner walks into a jab. Scribner will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Pembelton checks a low kick from Scribner. Scribner misses with a double jab
and Pembelton counters with a takedown into side control. Scribner wants to get back to his feet. Pembelton lands a few punches from side control. Scribner is working to avoid the ground and pound but Pembelton connects with a decent elbow. Check out the look on Pembelton's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Scribner is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Pembelton is controlling him well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pembelton postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Pembelton working the head with strikes. Pembelton creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Scribner sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Pembelton swings around for an armbar but Scribner sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Pembelton's guard. Pembelton manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Scribner manages to get himself to full guard.
Pembelton drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Scribner dives on top into guard. Pembelton is controlling Scribner's posture. Scribner knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pembelton on the ground. Scribner stands and steps away. Pembelton gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A momentary lapse in concentration from Scribner enables Pembelton to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Scribner manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Pembelton trying to control the position from guard on top but Scribner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Pembelton throws a strike but Scribner rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Scribner wants to stand but Pembelton has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Pembelton wants to sweep here but Scribner controlling him for the moment. Pembelton looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Scribner tries to stand but Pembelton is controlling from the bottom. Pembelton not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Scribner gets to his feet - Pembelton follows without any prompting. Pembelton slips a jab from Scribner. Scribner throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Pembelton counters with a single leg into guard. Scribner didn't expect that. Pembelton trying to control but Scribner is working from the bottom. Pembelton looking to control the position here, rather than advance. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pembelton accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pembelton has gone for a leg lock! Scribner slips out almost immediately though and dives into Pembelton's guard. Scribner wants to stand and escape but instead Pembelton has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Scribner avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Pembelton drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Scribner dives on top into guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Frank Pembelton dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Scribner lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Pembelton shoots in for a takedown but Scribner shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Pembelton blocks a head kick by Scribner.
Eric Scribner is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. A combination from Scribner does no damage. Scribner falls off balance throwing a combination
so Pembelton counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Pembelton wants to control from the top but Scribner keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pembelton accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Pembelton trying to control the position from guard on top but Scribner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's one minute gone in the round. Frank Pembelton has got the better of the ground game so far.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Frank Pembelton. Scribner throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Scribner looks for the body kick but Pembelton saw that one coming. Scribner misses with a double jab
and Pembelton counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Pembelton. Pembelton breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Pembelton looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Scribner stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Pembelton shoots in looking for a takedown but Scribner manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Pembelton's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Eric Scribner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frank Pembelton.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Scribner throws a right and a left that both miss. A head kick misses from Scribner. Scribner swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Pembelton counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Scribner! Pembelton working the ground and pound effectively.
Pembelton looking to control but Scribner is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Scribner is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. Pembelton fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Pembelton lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pembelton lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
A nice elbow there by Pembelton. Pembelton can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Scribner is looking to escape. Pembelton working Scribner over with strikes here. Pembelton has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Scribner is forced to tap!
