Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gustavo Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Castle Rock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Rock's choice of entrance music: The Rogue from Scotland . Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Castle Rock! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Luis Engracia and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rock throws a good cross that connects.
Rock swings widly with a right hand
and Mendes counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Mendes. Rock wants to sweep here but Mendes controlling him for the moment. Mendes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rock swivels though and keeps the full guard. Mendes trying to control but Rock is working from the bottom. Mendes tries to free his leg and advance position but Rock is retaining full guard. Mendes is working hard here to advance position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mendes trying to control the position from guard on top but Rock is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Mendes postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Mendes trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Mendes bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Nice takedown defense from Rock. No joy for Mendes on that attempt. Rock has managed to clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Mendes can't get the takedown.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Mendes tries for a takedown but Rock manages to get underhooks.

Mendes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rock's waist but Rock gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mendes off to one side. Rock fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Mendes tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Rock just misses with a punch to the body.

Mendes shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rock pinned against the cage. Rock gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. The fight stays on the outside here - Mendes looks like he's thinking about clinching though. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A good leg kick by Rock.

Rock will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Mendes up against the cage. Rock continues to stall. The referee tells him to work or he's going to break them up. Rock makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Mendes has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Rock avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gustavo Mendes. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rock is pushing Mendes up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Rock scores with an uppercut up the middle. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Rock walks away with a smile on his face. Mendes gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Mendes fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Rock ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mendes moves away. Mendes shoots in looking for a takedown. Rock tries to sprawl out of it but Mendes keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rock manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Rock swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rock moves into the clinch successfully.

Castle Rock showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Mendes moves to clinch but Rock breaks away and Rock counters with a one-two to the body. Rock misses with a left hand and Mendes counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Mendes trying to mount his opponent but Rock defends it. Mendes is working for a submission of some sort.

That's one minute gone in the round. Rock has Mendes pulled in close to control his posture. Mendes drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rock dives on top into guard. Mendes had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rock defends it easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Mendes is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rock is aware though and is defending well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rock wants to stand but Mendes is controlling his posture from full guard. Mendes has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rock can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Mendes is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rock is aware though and is defending well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rock wants to get up but he can't break Mendes's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Rock avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Mendes not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Rock gets to his feet. Mendes looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Mendes shoots for a takedown but Rock saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Mendes slips under a jab. Rock lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Rock closes the distance looking to clinch and Mendes counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Mendes is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Rock is not content to let Mendes control the position.
And that's the end of the fight! Gustavo Mendes showed his dominance in that final round. I think Rock has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
