PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mike Iron (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Martin Kampmann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kampmann is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Lil Wayne - Knockout ft. Nicki Minaj. Martin Kampmann told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Iron!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Martin Kampmann!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Iron scores with a shot to the body.

Iron drives through with a takedown into guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kampmann can do anything to dispel that myth.
Kampmann wants to stand and escape but Iron is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kampmann pushes Iron off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Kampmann stuffs the takedown attempt from Iron. Iron gets slowly back to his feet.
Kampmann shoots in looking for a takedown but Iron manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kampmann's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
The crowd cheers as Iron lands an impressive looking overhand right. Kampmann doesn't seem phased though.

Kampmann closes the distance and clinches up with Iron, looking for a takedown. Kampmann pushes Iron against the cage but Iron circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Iron misses with a double jab.
Iron lands with a thumping leg kick.
Iron scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Kampmann takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Iron throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Iron lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kampmann circles away quickly and effectively.
Iron is looking to clinch but Kampmann is avoiding it.
Iron shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Kampmann counters with a nice double leg into side control. Iron won't be happy with that.

Iron parries the strikes from Kampmann easily there. Kampmann is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Iron to escape.
Iron manages to get back to half guard.
Iron is breathing heavily.
Iron gets full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kampmann accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Iron working for a triangle but Kampmann defends it easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kampmann distracts Iron with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Kampmann keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Iron's head.

Kampmann got a little sloppy there for a moment and Iron has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kampmann has managed to get both his arms back between Iron's legs - danger averted.
Iron utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Iron is trying to keep Kampmann in close.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kampmann accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kampmann cracks Iron with a solid left hand.

Iron working for a triangle but Kampmann defends it easily.
Kampmann makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Martin Kampmann will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Kampmann shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Iron tries to roll over but Kampmann keeps him under control.
Kampmann moves nicely into side control.
Kampmann misses with the ground and pound.
Iron tries to contro but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.

Iron wants to control but Kampmann is having none of it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Iron is trying desperately to improve position.
Kampmann can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Iron is looking to escape.
Iron taking shots to the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Iron is in all sorts of trouble here.
Kampmann pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Iron tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Kampmann won't let Iron get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Iron can't escape the position.

Kampmann lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Kampmann scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Iron is trying desperately to improve position.
Iron throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.

Kampmann landing strikes from the mount.
Iron is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Kampmann with shots to the head and body - Iron looks very uncomfortable down there.
Iron is trying to escape the mount.
Kampmann is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Iron can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Martin Kampmann showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Kampmann is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Iron is looking for a triangle but Kampmann pushes his legs off easily.
Iron preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Kampmann is working Iron over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Kampmann with a flurry of punches that miss.
Iron is trying to keep Kampmann in close.
Kampmann is in close to Iron's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Kampmann trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Iron not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kampmann trying to control but Iron is working from the bottom.

Iron has his foot on Kampmann's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kampmann works his way back into a safe position though.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Kampmann's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Martin Kampmann comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Kampmann winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
