PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Yoruba Ahimbe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michio Suzuki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ahimbe comes into the arena with "Hit em Up" Tupac blaring out of the sound system. Suzuki has chosen Dragonball Z Theme as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Yoruba Ahimbe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Michio Suzuki!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Gregory Folan and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Suzuki lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Suzuki throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Suzuki lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Suzuki wants to slow Ahimbe down by chopping away at his legs.
Suzuki throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Ahimbe blocks a leg kick.
Ahimbe blocks a low kick nicely.
Ahimbe walks into a stiff left hand from Suzuki.
Suzuki tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Ahimbe was well out of range. Poor timing from Suzuki.
Suzuki throws a body punch but Ahimbe moves out of range.
Ahimbe shoots for a double leg takedown but Suzuki sprawls well. He's pushed Ahimbe's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Ahimbe blocks a leg kick.
Some bone on bone action there as Ahimbe checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Suzuki throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Ahimbe avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Suzuki looks to land a left hand but Ahimbe moved out of range nicely.
Suzuki finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Ahimbe tries to score a power double leg takedown but Suzuki sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ahimbe somewhat.
Ahimbe doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Suzuki misses with a head kick.
Michio Suzuki is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Suzuki misses with a two punch combination.
Suzuki fails to land with a series of punches.
Suzuki lands a slapping body shot.

Ahimbe shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Ahimbe showed some decent athleticism there.

Ahimbe has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Ahimbe is thwarting Suzuki's attempts to control the position.
Ahimbe moves into full mount! Suzuki won't be happy about that!
Suzuki wants to control but Ahimbe is having none of it.
Ahimbe lands a heavy elbow.
Ahimbe thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Ahimbe is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Suzuki has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Suzuki!
Ahimbe is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Suzuki is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ahimbe throwing shots but Suzuki is blocking nicely.
Suzuki is looking for a sweep. Ahimbe is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Ahimbe is thwarting Suzuki's attempts to control the position.
Suzuki is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Ahimbe is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Suzuki doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ahimbe.
Suzuki tries to roll over but Ahimbe keeps him under control.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ahimbe is keen to just control but Suzuki is a slippery customer.
Suzuki has hold of Ahimbe's hands but Ahimbe slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Ahimbe is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Ahimbe seems to be working for a kimura but Suzuki defends the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Yoruba Ahimbe will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Suzuki slips under a jab.
Ahimbe has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Suzuki fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ahimbe throws a hook but Suzuki blocks it.
A solid leg kick lands there for Suzuki.
Suzuki shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Ahimbe eats them both and turns towards Suzuki to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Ahimbe takes a swing at Suzuki's ribcage but misses.
Suzuki swings and misses with a hook to the body.
An inside leg kick from Suzuki misses.
Suzuki throws a predictable looking body shot

so Ahimbe counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Suzuki is on top in guard.

Ahimbe is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Suzuki preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Suzuki wants to sweep but no luck.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ahimbe has gone for a leg lock! Suzuki slips out almost immediately though and dives into Ahimbe's guard.

Suzuki tries a low kick but Ahimbe avoids it.
Suzuki throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

and Ahimbe counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Ahimbe moves in looking to clinch but Suzuki pushes him off.
Ahimbe takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

and Ahimbe counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Suzuki!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Suzuki tries to hold on but Ahimbe pushes him away.

Ahimbe swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Suzuki is now in Ahimbe's guard. A big mistake from Ahimbe there, giving up the dominant position!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ahimbe accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Ahimbe has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Suzuki can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ahimbe sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Ahimbe lands a jab to Suzuki's midsection.
Suzuki swinging wildly here.
Ahimbe shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Suzuki tries a low kick but Ahimbe avoids it.
Suzuki throws an overhand right that lands on Ahimbe's shoulder, as Ahimbe tries to avoid the shot.
Ahimbe drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Suzuki swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Ahimbe shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Ahimbe counters with a nice double leg into side control. Suzuki won't be happy with that.

Suzuki takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Ahimbe is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Suzuki is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Suzuki tries to bench press Ahimbe off him but Ahimbe keeps the position.

Ahimbe tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Suzuki is working to avoid the ground and pound but Ahimbe connects with a decent elbow.
Ahimbe throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Suzuki wants to get back to his feet.
Ahimbe works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Ahimbe tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ahimbe has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Ahimbe swings around for an armbar but Suzuki sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Ahimbe's guard.

Yoruba Ahimbe overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Ahimbe has his foot on Suzuki's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Suzuki works his way back into a safe position though.

Yoruba Ahimbe showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ahimbe, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
