PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brendan Schaub (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Kerr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kerr rushes Schaub and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Kerr escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Schaub throws a solid leg kick but Kerr takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Schaub.
Schaub misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Kerr looks to land a body kick but Schaub moved away.
Kerr shoots for a takedown but Schaub saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Kerr clinches with his opponent.
Kerr dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Schaub is trying to push Kerr away but Kerr has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Kerr's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Schaub fails with a takedown attempt.
Schaub stuffs the takedown attempt from Kerr. Kerr gets slowly back to his feet.
Kerr gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Schaub counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Schaub wants to control from the top but Kerr keeps moving.

Schaub tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Schaub is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Kerr pulls him back up using the underhooks.

and Kerr counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Schaub thinking.
Schaub shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kerr pinned against the cage. Kerr gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Kerr counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Kerr.
Schaub is working for takedown but Kerr is calmly controlling the position for now.

Schaub manages to pull guard.
Schaub wants to sweep here but Kerr controlling him for the moment.

Schaub looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Kerr slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Kerr trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Schaub wants to sweep but no luck.
Schaub controlling the position.
Schaub looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Kerr puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Kerr with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Kerr tries to pass to full mount but Schaub defends it.

That was a close round but I would say that Brendan Schaub will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Schaub doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Kerr decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Schaub's guard.

Schaub escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kerr gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Kerr stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Schaub wants to clinch but Kerr slips to the side

and Kerr counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Kerr changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Schaub fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kerr fails with a takedown attempt.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Schaub.
Schaub tries to clinch but Kerr moves away

and Kerr moves into the clinch.
A right handed body shot lands from Schaub.
Schaub jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kerr walks away with a smile on his face. Schaub gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Schaub tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kerr paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Schaub bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Kerr's head.

Schaub goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Schaub fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kerr avoids it really well and circles away.
Schaub shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kerr defends it nicely.

Kerr darts in and clinches Schaub up against the cage.

Kerr is leaning against Schaub and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Kerr has Schaub pressed against the cage, preventing Schaub from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Kerr is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Kerr digs a right hand underneath Schaub's ribcage. Schaub let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Schaub is keen to just control but Kerr is a slippery customer.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Schaub wants to stand up but Kerr is controlling the position.

We're going to have a standup here because Brendan Schaub wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Schaub shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kerr napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Schaub wants to control but Kerr is keeping him busy.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!

I would just about give that final round to Mark Kerr.
I think Kerr has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
