PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Poutine Pete (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rio Ortis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Poutine Pete!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rio Ortis!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Winston Howard and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pete misses with a jab, cross combination.
Ortis changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pete tries to avoid it but Ortis manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pete to the ground. Pete escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ortis will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Pete swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ortis misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Poutine Pete has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rio Ortis.
Pete connects with a body shot.
Ortis shoots for a double leg takedown but Pete sprawls well. He's pushed Ortis's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Ortis checks a leg kick.
Rio Ortis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Pete instigates a clinch.
Pete wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Pete prevents the takedown attempt.

Pete escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The fight stays on the outside here - Pete looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Pete is looking to score with low kicks.
Ortis shoots in and drives through. Pete sprawls well.
Pete swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ortis fails with a takedown attempt.

Pete misses with a head kick.

Pete darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Pete working over Ortis with some ground and pound. Ortis looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Ortis looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Pete keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Ortis tries to get to full guard but Pete has control of the leg.

Ortis is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Pete pulls his head out easily.
Ortis wants to improve his position but Pete is controlling well.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Ortis gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Pete counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ortis won't be happy with that.
Ortis is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Ortis is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Pete's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Ortis is looking for a sweep. Pete is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Pete trying to mount his opponent but Ortis defends it.

Pete works his foot free and advances to mount.

Pete is landing with some decent strikes but Ortis is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Pete wants to control the pace but Ortis is squirming around nicely.

The fighters are battling for position here. Ortis manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Ortis has his foot on Pete's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pete works his way back into a safe position though.
Pete stays in close to Ortis's body and controls the position.
Ortis looking to hit a scissor sweep but Pete is one step ahead there.
Ortis is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Ortis is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Ortis tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Pete is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Ortis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ortis is on top in guard.
Ortis slips nicely into half guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
