The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zaldiar throws the left hand but Porter avoids the punch easily. Zaldiar loads up on a big right hand but Porter slips the punch. Zaldiar misses with a straight left. Porter decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Porter keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Porter looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Zaldiar tries to roll over but Porter keeps him under control. Zaldiar really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Porter. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Porter wants to work for an arm triangle but Zaldiar is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Porter is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Zaldiar! Porter looking for a guillotine from mount but Zaldiar is having none of it. Porter swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Zaldiar is now in Porter's guard. A big mistake from Porter there, giving up the dominant position! Porter manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Zaldiar manages to get himself to full guard.

Porter is looking for a kimura but Zaldiar is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Porter to get the leverage. Zaldiar tries to get to full guard but Porter has control of the leg. Zaldiar is refusing to be controlled, as Porter sits in half guard. Porter keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Porter wants to work for an arm triangle but Zaldiar is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Zaldiar is not content to let Porter control the position. Porter is stalling here. Zaldiar is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Porter seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Zaldiar has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Porter sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Porter regains full guard. Nicely done. Porter throws his legs up looking for a submission but Zaldiar uses it to pass to side control.
Porter is looking for a sweep. Zaldiar in side control, just content to control the action for now. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jamal Porter dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Porter looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Zaldiar! Zaldiar is controlling an arm, preventing Porter from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Zaldiar is squirming around, avoiding Porter's attempts to control the action. Porter is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Zaldiar can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

That's one minute gone in the round. Porter is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Zaldiar has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Zaldiar! Zaldiar preventing the sweep. Zaldiar must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Zaldiar not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Porter has his foot on Zaldiar's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Zaldiar works his way back into a safe position though. Porter has his feet on Zaldiar's thighs here. He's pushed Zaldiar off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Zaldiar screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
