Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
28 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rip James! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, tommy gunn! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Reed Andrews and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! gunn shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in James's guard. gunn drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and James dives on top into guard. gunn keeping full guard, as James tries to pass. gunn has momentary wrist control but James slips an elbow through the middle. James postures up and lands a big shot to gunn's brow. James stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. gunn swivels though and keeps the full guard. gunn working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from James. gunn keeping moving, preventing James from controlling successfully. gunn lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for James! James is squirming around, avoiding gunn's attempts to control the action. gunn jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but James manages to avoid the submission attempt. James tries to buck gunn off but gunn is having none of it. James is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked gunn off and has taken his back!
That's one minute gone in the round. gunn is trying to break free.
James is trying to stick to gunn's back but gunn is turning into James. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in James's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by gunn. gunn avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

James keeping moving, preventing gunn from controlling successfully. gunn postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! James is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of gunn, into his guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. gunn looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! gunn is trying to keep James in close.
That's two minutes gone in the round. James makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. gunn is looking to sweep but instead, James has passed into half guard.

He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. James passes the guard and advances to mount! gunn is squirming around, avoiding James's attempts to control the action. gunn is in all sorts of trouble here.
BOOM! James connects with a massive shot to the dome!
James has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of gunn's face.
James unloading with bombs! James is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but gunn is surviving well by controlling James's body position as best he can. gunn in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. James landing strikes, looking to finish!
That's three minutes gone in the round. gunn is looking to improve his position but James isn't that keen on the idea. James with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
James lands with some vicious ground and pound - can gunn hang on? James has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. gunn is trying desperately to improve position. James working the ground and pound effectively.

James can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as gunn is looking to escape. James looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. James breaks from gunn's wrist control and lands an elbow. gunn is in a horrible position here. James smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. James putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! gunn is wriggling around trying to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. gunn is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. gunn wants to control but James is having none of it. gunn is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
gunn looks gassed! James lands a big shot there that rocks gunn but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
James breaks from gunn's wrist control and lands an elbow. James lands a nice shot to the head. James pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. gunn can't escape the position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! James lands with some vicious ground and pound - can gunn hang on? James is landing with some decent strikes but gunn is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. James landing punches. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rip James dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
gunn shoots in but no luck this time. James uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
It looks like tommy gunn has been cut. James drops gunn with a big left hand and mounts him. gunn is in big trouble! James unloading with bombs! James landing strikes from the mount. James is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for gunn! James has isolated one of gunn's arms. gunn looking to fight him off but James twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
