PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Gear Head (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jose Aldo!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Steve Erwin and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Head shoots for a double leg takedown but Aldo sprawls well. He's pushed Head's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Aldo is trying to trip Head. He has hold of a leg but Head is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Aldo persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Aldo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Head escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Aldo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Aldo tries to stand but Head is controlling from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jose Aldo.

Aldo has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Head is proving hard to escape from.

Head has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Aldo off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Aldo closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Head to the mat! Head manages to get full guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Head misses with a takedown attempt - Aldo sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Head shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Aldo as he avoids it easily.
Head shoots in looking for a takedown but Aldo manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Head's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Head gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Aldo counters with a thumping low kick.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Aldo is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Head's half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Aldo tries to free his leg and advance position but Head is retaining full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Aldo chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Head fails with a takedown attempt.

Aldo content just to control the position here.
Aldo can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Head is looking to escape.
And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.

Jose Aldo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



A momentary lapse in concentration from Head enables Aldo to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Head manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Head is working hard here to advance position.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Head is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Jose Aldo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Aldo has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
