PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chingiz Akayev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mongo Malone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Akayev might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to the lamentations of women. Mongo Malone acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 3, fighting out of St Petersburg, Chingiz Akayev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mongo Malone!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Illya Tyunina and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Malone thows a leg kick but Akayev checks it

and Akayev counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Akayev thows a big elbow that misses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Malone is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Akayev throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Akayev throws and elbow that misses. Malone uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Akayev's guard. Nice move by Malone!
Akayev wants to sweep here but Malone controlling him for the moment.

Akayev is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Akayev throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Malone trying to control the position from guard on top but Akayev is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Malone working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Malone postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Malone got a little sloppy there for a moment and Akayev has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Malone has managed to get both his arms back between Akayev's legs - danger averted.

Akayev escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Malone gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Malone wants to pass the guard but Akayev is keeping the position.

Malone postures up in Akayev's guard and throws a big left but Akayev blocks it.
Malone sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Akayev's guard.

Akayev is looking to get back to full guard here but Malone has managed to pass to side control instead.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Malone cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Akayev is in all sorts of trouble here.
Malone misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Malone throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Akayev is looking for a sweep. Malone is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Malone pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Akayev back to the cage. Malone follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Malone takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Malone looks to land a combination but Akayev avoids it well.
Malone closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Malone ducks right into an uppercut from Akayev.
Akayev checks the leg kick.
Mongo Malone seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Akayev swings for the body but Malone moves out of range.
Malone feints and then cracks Akayev's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Akayev down.
Malone rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Akayev counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Malone throws a leg kick but Akayev moved away.
Akayev punishes Malone's body with a nice straight punch.

Malone lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Malone takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Akayev stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Mongo Malone is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Malone misses with a low kick.
Akayev checks a leg kick nicely.
Akayev jabs Malone to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Malone uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Akayev.
Akayev fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

and Akayev counters with a nice body shot.
Horrible takedown by Akayev or perhaps it was just good defense by Malone which made him look bad.
Malone takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Akayev throws a good cross that connects.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Malone throws a low kick but Akayev avoids it.
Akayev connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.


It looks like Mongo Malone has been cut.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Malone.
Malone uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Akayev.
Malone misses with a leg kick
and Akayev connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Akayev throws a hook to the side of Malone's head but Malone sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Akayev moves into the clinch successfully.
Akayev is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Akayev seems a little flustered. He's come in with the intention of controlling the clinch but Malone is preventing him from doing so, at least for the moment.
Akayev swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Akayev throws a head punch that misses.
Malone lands with a short head shot on the inside.

Akayev tries a body shot but Malone blocks it.

Malone cracks Akayev with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Akayev drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Malone manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Akayev has Malone in his guard.

Malone must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Malone wants to pass the guard but Akayev is keeping the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Malone really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Akayev. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Akayev working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Malone doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Malone manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Well Akayev has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
