Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rafael Tanaka! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Robert Traven! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Thiago Cunha and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Traven gets the takedown into side control. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Traven's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Tanaka is looking for a sweep.
Robert Traven has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Traven closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Tanaka did well to prevent Traven getting side control. Traven tries to pass to full mount but Tanaka defends it. Traven slows the pace down in half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. I looks like Traven might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Traven looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Tanaka trying to control but Traven postures up.
Tanaka is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Tanaka wants to get back to his feet.
Traven passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Tanaka! Tanaka is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Traven has taken his back.
Traven is cranking Tanaka's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Tanaka! He's tightened the choke and Tanaka is tapping out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Robert Traven!
