1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Amar Suloev! The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Aleksandr Martynov and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Suloev tries to score a power double leg takedown but Minutsak sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Suloev somewhat. Suloev shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Suloev takes a swing at Minutsak's ribcage but misses. Suloev blocks a head kick by Minutsak.

Suloev misses with a takedown attempt - Minutsak sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Suloev uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Minutsak. Ulf Minutsak seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Minutsak is looking to clinch. Suloev shoots in for a takedown but Minutsak shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Suloev shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Minutsak pinned against the cage. Minutsak gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Minutsak looking for a takedown here - he's got it. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Suloev can do anything to dispel that myth. Suloev avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Minutsak. Minutsak scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Minutsak is looking to take a break and control but Suloev is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Suloev really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Minutsak. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Suloev avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Minutsak. Minutsak thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Suloev's head. Minutsak working the head and body with strikes. Minutsak winds up and cracks Suloev with a swinging punch to the side of the head. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Minutsak scores with a couple of good hammerfists. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Suloev is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Minutsak scores with a couple of nice shots. Minutsak landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Minutsak thows a huge punch but Suloev dodges it nicely.

Ulf Minutsak dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Minutsak throws a head kick that misses. Suloev with a poor takedown and Minutsak counters with a nice body shot. Suloev doesn't succeed with the takedown and Minutsak counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Minutsak shoots in for a takedown but Suloev shows good takedown defense. Suloev scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly! This has been an exciting period of action! Minutsak clinches up with Suloev and pushes him back against the cage. Suloev is breathing heavily. Minutsak jumps guard and drags Suloev to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Minutsak controlling the position. Ulf Minutsak overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Suloev with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Minutsak wants to sweep here but Suloev controlling him for the moment. Suloev with a flurry of punches that miss. Suloev tries to free his leg and advance position but Minutsak is retaining full guard. Suloev wants to stand and escape but instead Minutsak has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Suloev wants to control the position but Minutsak says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Suloev is defending against the submission attempts here by Minutsak.
Minutsak takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Minutsak has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Suloev defend it? Minutsak steps over the head and cranks it - Suloev is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Minutsak!
