4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Aaron Alard! The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Patrick Alders and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sousa tries to sprawl but Alard drives through with a takedown into half guard. Alard passes the half guard and he's now in mount! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Alard looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Alard! Alard goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Sousa has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Alard but great work by Sousa. Sousa decides to stand back up. Sousa throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Vasco Sousa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sousa shoots and misses and Alard counters with a nice double leg into guard. Sousa keeping moving, preventing Alard from controlling successfully. Sousa wants to stand but Alard is controlling the position. Sousa looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Alard connects with a couple of short punches. Alard postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Alard trying to control the position from guard on top but Sousa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Alard drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Alard as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Sousa screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Alard! Nice submission victory there!
