Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Henry Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jake Benevidi!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Illya Tyunina and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Benevidi misses with a right hand
and Gracie counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Benevidi misses with a lunging right hand
and Gracie counters with a straight right hand.
Benevidi throws a nice looking combination but Gracie bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Benevidi throws a poor cross that misses
letting Gracie counter with a right hand.
Benevidi throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Gracie counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Benevidi throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Gracie shoots for a takedown but Benevidi saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Gracie fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Benevidi lands with an uppercut that bounces Gracie off the cage and back into rage.
Benevidi throws a poor cross that misses
and Gracie counters with a single leg into guard. Benevidi didn't expect that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Benevidi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Benevidi wants to stand up but Gracie is controlling him.
Gracie drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Benevidi dives on top into guard.
Benevidi lands a couple of elbows.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Benevidi loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Gracie is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Gracie is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Benevidi sees it coming and defends easily.
Gracie is working for a submission of some sort.
Gracie is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Benevidi is just riding it out for now. Gracie eventually gives up the hold.
Gracie is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gracie tries to pass the half guard into mount. Benevidi knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Gracie is working for a kimura but Benevidi is defending it quite comfortably.
Gracie in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Benevidi tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Gracie!
