Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Masakatsu Ueda! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kix Rus! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Chris Downing and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rus throws a head kick that misses. Ueda checks the leg kick nicely there.
Ueda feints and as Rus raises his hands in defense, Ueda changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Ueda works over Rus with some ground and pound from guard. Rus not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rus tries to land a sweep but no joy. Ueda working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rus manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ueda manages to get himself to full guard.
Rus is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Ueda is looking for a triangle but Rus pushes his legs off easily.
Ueda looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Ueda looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Rus really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ueda. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Ueda throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Rus is posturing up here but Ueda has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Rus tries to roll out but it's too tight and Rus has to tap! Slick submission there by Ueda!
