The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fuse shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rodriguez's guard. Rodriguez looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Fuse trying to control the position from guard on top but Rodriguez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Fuse drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rodriguez dives on top into guard. Fuse looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Fuse is looking for a triangle but Rodriguez pushes his legs off easily.
Fuse looking for a guillotine here but Rodriguez defends easily.
Fuse wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fuse is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Fuse working for a triangle but Rodriguez defends it easily.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Fuse is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rodriguez is aware though and is defending well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Fuse has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rodriguez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Fuse looking for a guillotine here but Rodriguez defends easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Fuse is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rodriguez defends well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rodriguez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Fuse has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rodriguez has managed to get both his arms back between Fuse's legs - danger averted. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Fuse can do anything to dispel that myth. Fuse working for a triangle but Rodriguez defends it easily.
Fuse manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rodriguez manages to get himself to full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Fuse drops back looking for a leg! Rodriguez is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Rodriguez manages to kick Fuse off! Fuse jumps back into Rodriguez's guard. Fuse is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Fuse is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gaara Fuse dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Fuse shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Rodriguez is defending against the submission attempts here by Fuse.

Fuse is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rodriguez is just riding it out for now. Fuse eventually gives up the hold. Gaara Fuse has got the better of the ground game so far. Fuse seems to be working for a kimura but Rodriguez defends the submission attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fuse is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Fuse is trying for a kimura here. Rodriguez looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Fuse wins by kimura!
