Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bob Bear (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jia Le Li (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bob Bear!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jia Le Li!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bear.
Nice sprawl there from Li as Bear shoots in.

Li darts in and clinches Bear up against the cage.
Li misses with the head strike.
Bear blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Bear can't get the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bob Bear. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bear is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Li pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Bear pulls guard effortlessly.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bear utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Li landing some decent shots from guard.

Bear has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Li can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Bear tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Li cracks Bear with a solid left hand.
Bear wants to stand up but Li is controlling him.

Li really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bear. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Bear is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Bear thows a huge punch but Li dodges it nicely.
Li is trying to control but can't.
Bear trying to control the action but Li is working from the bottom.
Bear is taking a breather. Li says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Bear is trying to control the action in half guard but Li is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Bob Bear wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Bear is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Li fails with an attempt to clinch.
Li tries to bum rush Bear with a series of wild strikes but Bear uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Bear shoots for a double leg takedown but Li sprawls well. He's pushed Bear's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Bear tries for a takedown but Li sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Bear looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Li is doing well to control the position and prevent Bear from advancing to side control.

Li is staying active underneath Bear, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Bear looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Li wants to improve his position but Bear is controlling well.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Bear throwing shots but Li is blocking nicely.
Bear trying to control the action but Li is working from the bottom.
Bear sitting and controlling from the half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bear is trying to control the action in half guard but Li is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Li tries to clinch up
and Bear makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Li really felt that one!

Bear drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Bear throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Li works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Li avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Bear thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Bear passes Li's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Bear is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Li defends it well.
Li is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bear is trying to work for a kimura but Li is defending well.
Bear is controlling the pace.
Bear is trying to control. Li wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bear uses his free foot to push down on Li's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Li.
Bear takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Bear throwing strikes here but Li is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Bear is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Li is surviving well by controlling Bear's body position as best he can.
Bear looking to control and managing it successfully.

Bear working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Bear with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Li leaves Bear with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Bear shoots in but no luck this time.
Bob Bear seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bear changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Li looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Bear looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Li parries the strikes from Bear easily there. Bear is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Li to escape.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bear is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Li has escaped the position, nice work there.
Li takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Li is looking for a sweep.

Bear thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Bear is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Li is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Li prevents Bear from moving into mount.
Bear controls the position.
Bear works to advance to full mount. Li defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Li tries to hold on but Bear postures up.
Bear controlling from mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bear misses with a head shot.

Bear is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Li has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Poor strikes thrown by Bear there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Jia Le Li has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Bear landing punches.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Li can do anything to dispel that myth.
Bear misses with a head shot.
Bob Bear is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Bear tries to control but Li wriggling away.
Bear sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Bear looking for a guillotine from mount but Li is having none of it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bob Bear showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bear, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
