Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jacob Bryant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Villareal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Richard Villareal told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jacob Bryant!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Richard Villareal!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Steve Montenegro and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bryant clinches up against the cage.
Bryant tries a knee to the head but Villareal blocks it.
Villareal doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Villareal goes for a takedown in the clinch but Bryant prevents it.
Bryant lands a body punch in the clinch.
Bryant landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Villareal missing with knees to the body.
Bryant avoids the elbow strike from Villareal, against the cage.
Villareal drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Villareal is working for takedown but Bryant is calmly controlling the position for now.
Jacob Bryant has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Richard Villareal.
Villareal is trying to break free.

Bryant breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Bryant gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Villareal has gone for a leg lock! Bryant slips out almost immediately though and dives into Villareal's guard.
Bryant slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Bryant trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Bryant landing with the ground and pound.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Bryant slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bryant trying to control but Villareal is working from the bottom.
Bryant makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Villareal lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Bryant!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bryant tries to reverse the position but Villareal maintains control.
Bryant squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Villareal misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Bryant is breathing heavily.
Bryant is squirming around, avoiding Villareal's attempts to control the action.
Villareal looking to ground and pound but Bryant is blocking nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Villareal fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Bryant is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Bryant bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Villareal has his foot on Bryant's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bryant works his way back into a safe position though.

Bryant avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Villareal looking for a sweep. Not yet Villareal, not yet.
Villareal has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Villareal manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Villareal goes for an armbar but Bryant turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Bryant.

Villareal has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Bryant doesn't defend quickly enough and Villareal has managed to lock this one up! Can Bryant escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Villareal on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:01 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Richard Villareal!
