The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kao lands a right hook to the body.
Kao misses with a wild combination.

Kao looks to land a combination. Saunders sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

It looks like Nolan Saunders has been cut.
Kao throws a jab when Saunders was well out of range.

Kao lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Saunders backs up against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Saunders shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kao manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Saunders shoots in for a double leg but Kao sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Saunders closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Saunders lands in his opponent's guard.
Saunders postures up in Kao's guard and throws a big left but Kao blocks it.
Kao manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Saunders manages to get himself to full guard.
Kao tries to stand but Saunders is controlling from the bottom.
Kao knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Saunders on the ground.

Saunders had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kao defends it easily.

Kao won't allow Saunders to sweep him here.
Saunders looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Kao puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Saunders tries to get to full guard but Kao has control of the leg.

Kao stands up from Saunders's guard - Kao perhaps looking for a knockout.
Kao connects with a body shot that sends Saunders's belly button to the back.

Kao misses with the combination.
Kao misses with an uppercut. Saunders saw that one coming.
Saunders moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Kao swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Kao throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Saunders on the side of the head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Saunders uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kao.
Kao looks to score with a jab to the body but Saunders is just out of range.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kao fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Kao throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Kao fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Saunders looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
A bone on bone clash there as Saunders blocks the leg kick.
Kao connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Saunders's hands.
Kao misses with a jab, cross combination.
Saunders slips a jab and a cross from Kao.
Kao scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Kao stalks Saunders and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Saunders's face. Saunders staggers backwards, shaken.

Saunders walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

That has opened up Nolan Saunders's cut even more.
Li Kao is winning the standup battle so far.
Kao drops Saunders with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Saunders! Kao dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!
