Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bob Soza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Soza comes to the cage accompanied by Sponge Bob Theme Song. Smith has chosen Firework as his entrance music. On his way into the cage it seems that Bob Soza has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Bob Soza seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bob Soza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Smith!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Steve Erwin and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Soza tried to score with a low kick but Smith checks it.
Soza showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Smith.
A slow jab from Smith misses its intended target.
John Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smith throws a looping overhand right but Soza ducks down to avoid it.

Smith drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smith is trying to get an arm triangle but Soza is defending well.

Smith has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Soza is fending him off so far but Smith persists. Nope, Soza circles away and we're back to standing.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Soza as he avoids it easily.
Soza stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Soza wants it to stay on the feet.
Bob Soza has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Smith.
Smith closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
A big left from Soza misses.
Smith tries to close the distance and clinch up but Soza swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Soza misses with a head kick.
A jab from Smith does it's job there.
The fighters circle momentarily. Smith darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Smith shoots in for a takedown but Soza shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Soza swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Smith fails with an attempt to clinch.
Smith misses with a series of wild punches.
Smith shoots for a takedown but Soza saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Smith closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Soza did well to prevent Smith getting side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Smith throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Soza on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Soza tries to get out of the position.
Smith looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Smith decides to stand and escape the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Soza pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

John Smith dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Smith shoots in looking for a takedown. Soza tries to sprawl out of it but Smith keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Soza manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Smith throws a chopping leg kick but Soza manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Soza as he jumps to the side.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
No luck for Smith with that takedown attempt.
Bob Soza has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Smith.

Soza pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A low kick from Soza misses
enabling Smith to counter with a crisp jab.
Smith tries to bum rush Soza with a series of wild strikes but Soza uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Smith shoots in for a takedown but Soza shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Smith shoots in but no luck this time.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Smith throws a hook to the side of Soza's head but Soza sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Smith checks a low kick from Soza.
Bob Soza is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Soza pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Soza is looking to clinch but Smith is avoiding it.
Smith throws a body punch but Soza moves out of range.
Smith circles away from the clinch attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Smith showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Soza.

Smith shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Soza napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Smith is staying tight to Soza's torso, preventing him from escaping.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smith wants to lay and pray for a moment but Soza keeps working.
Smith tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Smith has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Soza slips a jab from Smith.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Soza tries to land a leg kick but Smith saw it coming and moves away.
Smith misses with a straight right.
Soza moves out of range as Smith strikes.
Soza throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Smith closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Smith lands in his opponent's guard.

Smith lands a couple of elbows.
Smith trying to control but Soza is working from the bottom.
Smith thows a big elbow that misses.
Smith wants to control from the top but Soza keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Smith working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Smith wants to control from the top but Soza keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

John Smith has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Smith rushes Soza and presses him up against the cage.

Smith breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Smith blocks a head kick by Soza.
Smith tries to clinch there but Soza circles away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith throws a shot from downtown. Soza moves away and avoids it.
Soza throws a head kick that misses.
Smith uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Soza has time to react.

Smith shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Smith sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Soza holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Smith tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smith controlling his opponent.
Soza knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smith on the ground.
Smith lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Soza hang on?
Bob Soza has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
John Smith is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Smith takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

John Smith comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Smith winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
