Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Roger Reynolds! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Yan Newton! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Robert Douchet and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Reynolds shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Newton is pressing down on Reynolds's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Reynolds is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Reynolds trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Reynolds stands and throws Newton's legs to the side, diving into side control. Reynolds looks up at the clock and then as Newton takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Reynolds smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Newton is letting Reynolds control him for a moment. Reynolds working the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sloppy strikes there by Reynolds. Reynolds in side control, just content to control the action for now. Newton can't do much from the bottom here. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Reynolds stands up and we're back to a striking position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A head kick from Newton lands but Reynolds takes it in his stride. Newton misses with a takedown and Reynolds counters with a nice double leg into side control. Newton won't be happy with that. Reynolds advances to mount. Reynolds sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Reynolds's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
That's three minutes gone in the round. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Newton tries to reverse the position but Reynolds maintains control.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Roger Reynolds wasn't doing enough on the ground. Reynolds looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Newton is fending him off so far but Reynolds persists. Nope, Newton circles away and we're back to standing. Reynolds closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Newton did well to prevent Reynolds getting side control. Reynolds content to control rather than advance. Newton looks gassed! Reynolds is nestled in close to Newton, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Reynolds works his way into side control. Newton wants to control but Reynolds postures up. The referee asks Reynolds politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Reynolds prefers to stall for the moment though. Reynolds is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Newton is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Reynolds scores with punches from side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's one minute gone in the round. Reynolds has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Newton's face.
Reynolds controlling the pace for now. Roger Reynolds overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Reynolds fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Reynolds seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Newton for as long as he can get away with. Newton throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Reynolds prevents Newton from getting the reversal. Reynolds controlling the pace for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Newton is trying desperately to improve position. Reynolds controlling the pace for now. Newton wants to control but Reynolds is having none of it. Reynolds controlling his opponent. Reynolds landing strikes from the mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Roger Reynolds dominated that second round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Yan Newton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Newton lands a high kick!
Reynolds misses with a kick to the body and Newton counters with a takedown into side control. Reynolds sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Reynolds is trying to stand up here but Newton is controlling him well. Reynolds preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. Newton takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. Newton seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Reynolds does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Roger Reynolds has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Reynolds takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Newton misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Newton throws a low kick but Reynolds moves out of range easily. Newton keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Newton goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Reynolds takes the fight into the clinch. Newton is trying to force a seperation but Reynolds has the dominant position. A head punch blocked on the inside by Reynolds. Reynolds manages to break the clinch.
Reynolds changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Newton looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Newton prevents Reynolds from moving into mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Newton is looking to regain half guard here but Reynolds keeps moving and retains side control. Reynolds scoring with punches from side control. Newton being controlled for a moment. Newton is trying to control Reynolds's posture but Reynolds avoids it. A lull in the action here as Reynolds stalls from top position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Roger Reynolds. Newton fails to land with a series of punches.
Newton scores with a hook to the body. Reynolds takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Reynolds scores with a takedown into Newton's guard. Newton is working an open guard so Reynolds takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Roger Reynolds. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Reynolds, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
