PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between JP Benn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and jonny beano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Benn comes to the cage accompanied by Icarus by Hopesfall. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
beano fails to land with a series of punches.
Benn slips under a jab.
Benn misses with a looping left.
Benn goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Nice takedown defense from Benn. No joy for beano on that attempt.

Benn clinches up with beano and pushes him back against the cage.

Benn pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Horrible takedown by beano or perhaps it was just good defense by Benn which made him look bad.
beano looks for a takedown but Benn sprawls well.

beano moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Benn connects with a good right hand that stumbles beano. beano circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

beano stalling away here and it's allowed Benn to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Benn rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but beano moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
beano takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Benn wants to clinch.
Benn tries to close the distance and clinch up but beano swats him away and circles back towards the center.

You can see the frustration on Benn's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Benn looking to hit a scissor sweep but beano is one step ahead there.

beano drops back looking for a leg! Benn is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Benn manages to kick beano off! beano jumps back into Benn's guard.
beano is breathing heavily.

beano is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Benn is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Benn has escaped and now he's on top!

Benn stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Benn stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Benn is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Benn dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

beano has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Benn.

An uppercut to the body lands inside from Benn.
Benn avoids the elbow strike from beano, against the cage.

Benn's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Benn tries to clinch up but beano circles away and keeps his distance.
beano shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Benn as he avoids it easily.
Benn is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Benn lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Benn lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of beano backwards.

Benn's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
beano has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!

beano shoots in looking for a takedown but Benn manages to keep the fight standing, pushing beano's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Benn scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

beano changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Benn tries to avoid it but beano manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Benn to the ground. Benn escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Benn connects with a nasty looking knee right to beano's face.

so beano counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Benn will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Benn bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in beano's guard.

beano is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Benn not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
jonny beano has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
beano wants to sweep here but Benn controlling him for the moment.

beano throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Benn escapes and throws beano's legs to the side, diving into side control!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to JP Benn.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Benn, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
