PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pate Boxer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Mason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pate Boxer looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pate Boxer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Richard Mason!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boxer tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mason paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Boxer tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mason swivels and escapes.
Mason on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Mason doesn't manage to clinch there - Boxer circles away.
Mason throws a head kick that misses.

Mason stuffs the takedown.

Boxer clinches up with Mason and pushes him back against the cage.
Boxer wants to break free but Mason has control.
Mason tries to pull guard but Boxer won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Mason breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Boxer lands a head kick. Mason smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mason.

Boxer is refusing to be controlled, as Mason sits in half guard.
Mason thows a huge punch but Boxer dodges it nicely.

Mason is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Boxer is trying to maintain the position but Mason is very close to passing his half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Mason dodges the punch combination from Boxer.
Boxer shoots in for a takedown but Mason shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pate Boxer. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mason throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Boxer's waist but Boxer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mason off to one side.

Boxer is looking to take a break and control but Mason is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Boxer tries to stand and escape but Mason is controlling the position.
Mason has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Boxer is working away from the top position though.

Boxer seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Mason for as long as he can get away with.

Boxer wants to work for an arm triangle but Mason is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boxer takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mason is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Boxer breaks from Mason's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Boxer avoids the attempt from Mason to control.
Mason tries to reverse the position but Boxer maintains control.
Boxer unloads with some shots from mount but Mason bucks and avoids them well.
Mason is trying desperately to improve position.
Mason sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mason makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Mason.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!
