PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Art Vandelay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marshall Bruce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vandelay is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Art Vandelay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marshall Bruce!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Dean Styles and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bruce shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Vandelay as he avoids it easily.
Vandelay is breathing heavily.

Bruce instigates a clinch.
Vandelay has had enough of the clinch but Bruce keeps him there for the moment.

Bruce has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Vandelay uses from the top position.

Bruce is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Bruce lands a shot to the body.

Bruce gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Bruce tries to score a power double leg takedown but Vandelay sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bruce somewhat.

Bruce breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Bruce decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Bruce shoots in but Vandelay avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Vandelay is controlling the position but Bruce somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.
Vandelay looks to land a strike but Bruce avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Bruce manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Bruce tries for a takedown but Vandelay sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Vandelay rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bruce moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Vandelay swats away the attempt to clinch by Bruce.
Bruce lands with a slapping head kick.

Bruce fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Vandelay throws a one two combo.
Vandelay misses with a double jab
and Bruce cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Bruce shoots in and drives through. Vandelay sprawls well.
Vandelay throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Bruce misses with a takedown attempt - Vandelay sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Vandelay rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bruce moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

and Bruce counters with a takedown into side control.
The ground and pound from Bruce seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Bruce tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Bruce fails to land a wild elbow strike.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Bruce misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Bruce in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Bruce counters with a straight right hand.
Nice sprawl there from Vandelay as Bruce shoots in.
Bruce looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Bruce dives in and grabs Vandelay's left leg, looking for a takedown. Vandelay pushes down on Bruce's head and hops out.

Bruce blocks a jab.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bruce rushes Vandelay and presses him up against the cage.
Bruce lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Vandelay is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Bruce jumps guard and drags Vandelay to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Vandelay throws a strike but Bruce rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Vandelay wants to get back to his feet but Bruce is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Bruce wants to control from the top but Vandelay keeps moving.
Vandelay might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Bruce stands up from Vandelay's guard - Bruce perhaps looking for a knockout.

Bruce shoots in and gets a takedown into Vandelay's guard.
Bruce stands and throws Vandelay's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Bruce stands up.

Bruce shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Vandelay defends it nicely.
Vandelay misses with a head kick.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Vandelay enables Bruce to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Vandelay manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Bruce trying to control but Vandelay is working from the bottom.
Bruce wants to stand but Vandelay has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Vandelay wants to improve his position but instead Bruce has moved into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vandelay wants to control but Bruce is keeping busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marshall Bruce showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!

and Bruce counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Bruce decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Bruce shoots in for a double leg but Vandelay sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Vandelay clinches up with Bruce and pushes him back against the cage.

Vandelay wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Vandelay has had enough of the clinch but Bruce keeps him there for the moment.
Vandelay looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Bruce has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Vandelay uses from the top position.

Bruce stands and steps away. Vandelay gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Bruce uses his free foot to push down on Vandelay's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Vandelay.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bruce has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Vandelay is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Vandelay is in a horrible position here. Bruce smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Bruce cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

And that's the end of the fight!
Marshall Bruce comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Bruce winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
