The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shields has closed the distance and engaged Jackson in a clinch.
Jackson is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Shields is keeping busy. Shields gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Jackson.
Shields manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Jackson preventing the sweep. Jackson sitting in guard here, content to control. Jackson stopping the sweep attempt from Shields. Jackson trying to control the position from guard on top but Shields is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Shields is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

You can see the frustration on Shields's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Shields is looking for a sweep. Jackson working the ground and pound from side control. That's three minutes gone in the round. Shields is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jackson postures up in Shields's guard and throws a big left but Shields blocks it. Shields trying to keep a closed guard but Jackson is proving a slippery customer.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Shields throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Jackson throws a sloppy strike and Shields has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Jackson is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Shields!
